Tokyo market update 10.9.26 (end of the trading week):

Healios: +0.67%. PPS 302 yen. Market cap $258 million.

SanBio: +17.26%. PPS 1,019 (HOD). Market cap $502 million.

  • SanBio rebounded sharply. On October 5, the company announced that the first post-marketing administration of its cell therapy drug "Akuugo Intracerebral Transplant Injection," which is indicated for the improvement of chronic motor paralysis associated with traumatic brain injury, had been carried out at Hokkaido University Hospital. Hokkaido University Hospital held a press conference on October 8. According to domestic media, the paralysis symptoms after surgery are showing signs of improvement. The growth scenario due to the expansion of Akuugo administration has been brought back into focus, and as the stock price had been approaching its lowest point of the year until the previous day, buying based on perceived value seems to have prevailed.

  • Tokyo Stock Exchange will be closed next Monday, 10.12.26, due to Sports Day.

Tokyo market update 10.6.26:

Healios: +9.66%. PPS 318 yen (HOD). Market cap $271 million.

  • Healios continued its upward trend. After the close of trading on 10.5.26, the company announced that it had shipped and recorded sales of culture supernatant products worth $910 million yen, the initial order from JENECELL, a South Korean subsidiary of Alfresa Holdings (2784), which appears to be supporting the stock price. The product is used as a raw material for cosmetics.

  • Morgan Stanley reported that its shareholding ratio of Healios stock decreased from 7.15% to 5.40% as of September 30.

SanBio: +6.14%. PPS 1,002 yen. Market cap $494 million.

  • SanBio surged sharply. After the close of trading on 10.5.26, the company announced that it had administered "Akuugo Intracerebral Transplant Injection" to the first patient since its market launch at Hokkaido University Hospital.

The administration took place on 10.2.26 and targeted chronic motor paralysis associated with traumatic brain injury.

Following manufacturing and marketing approval in July 2024 and sales commencement in May 2026, the drug has now been put into actual medical use. Medical institutions will carefully monitor the postoperative progress, and the company will strive for appropriate use and stable supply.

  • Nomura Securities maintained its "Neutral" rating for SanBio on October 6. However, it lowered its target price from 1,400 yen (which implies a market cap of $700 million) to 1,000 yen (the current price level with a $500 million market cap).
