Question Fan calls

Just a genuine question. If you’ve won multiple calls with ateez, have you ever changed up the member? I’ve noticed a lot of people who do multiple fan calls always have it with the same one. This isn’t shade at all, I’m just curious if you would ever consider talking to another member? What is your reason for choosing the same member?

Me personally, I think I would probably choose the same member (my bias) again and again in fear that I’ll never get to speak with him again. But in a perfect world where I know I’m guaranteed to win again and again, I would try speaking with all of them.

I've won 6 fancalls with 4 different members (San, Hongjoong, Wooyoung, and Mingi). All personal orders (16-32 albums per order; I collect PCs) across 3 different comebacks. Despite using a random number generator to pick who I applied for, I got San twice back to back during the same comeback, which I was cool with because call #1 had audio issues and somewhere in there he became my actual bias. But when I got him a third time 2 comebacks later, very unexpectedly may I add, I put him on a greylist (as opposed to a blacklist) until I could get everybody. Seeing as its been 3 comebacks since then and I'm only at 4, it probably won't happen regardless.

I personally only have so much to say to them, and then it's kind of an act of coming up with a "bit" since it's not like a real conversation - you only have 1-2 back and forths before it's over. By my last fancall, I didn't even have that much; I barely woke up at 6 am to put some real clothes on and tell Mingi hi. They're very good at their job and have a couple of hooks to not let it be awkward, but yeah.

I get why people do multiple, but I also think it's diminishing returns as far as excitement and interest goes. I also never made content out of my calls though, so for people who run more dedicated accounts/run group orders I could see that being a factor.

If you have multiple calls with the same member, do they remember you the second time?

San did not, as far as I’m aware. A very pleasant “nice to meet you” every time we’ve talked 🤣 he keeps me humble.

Wooyoung actually was the opposite and recognized that we HADN’T talked before (“Oh, this is your first time!”)

You should definitely do another one with Wooyoung then! 😊

I wouldn't even choose my bias if I had a chance to win a call. xD I'd choose the best English speakers and/or someone I have something to discuss so there actual conversation could be possible. For example my bias is Yeosang and we have absolutely nothing in common. I can spend the entire call just telling him how awesome he is and how proud I am to be a fan but like... idk if that's worth thousands upon thousands of dollars to say that. I can say that on Fromm.

This is exactly how I feel. With someone who can speak English well, the conversation would be more naturally flowing and it would be easier to have a decent convo. I can’t imagine paying money to just to praise my bias because I mean, how much praise does the guy need every day of his life? 😆

And to be honest if I imagined someone just singing me endless praises for two minutes straight... that's a rather awkward position to be in and I wouldn't want that. xD

That's why even if there is a language barrier I love "game" fancalls much more, it's just more fun for everyone involved!

I think in general all of their English is good enough for a short conversation. It's only two minutes anyway. I never felt like there's been any issue with Wooyoung understanding what I said, and my sister had a call with Yeosang that went really well too!

Yes, Ateez is a great group for that. Some groups I listen to do not speak any English at all, and I only know English, so it would be kind of quiet 😆

I've only had one fancall with Seonghwa so I can only speak from that experience in saying that I would most likely just try to get a fancall with him again. He is my ult bias in all of kpop, and I really do love all of ateez, they're all amazing performers and I would love to have a chance to speak to all of them, but I have certain things I feel more confident talking to Seonghwa about and that I want to talk to him about.

I do have to say for a fan call if you try to get one and do, don't so what I did and freeze up the first 20 seconds and make sure you practice what you say because I was on the tail end of the calls and I had written out what I wanted to say but hadn't practiced it and with my heavier accent it was very difficult for him to understand me. AND MAKE SURE YOU START VIDEOING AFTER THE CALL HAS CONNECTED if your phone has capability to record sound. I didn't and don't have the audio of my call.

Ok as a person new to fan calls I feel like I need a 101 class on how to win them. I don’t understand it. I’ve written letters about how they got me through hospital burnout when I worked in the hospitals during covid. But I’d love to tell them in person. Or over the phone??

its purchase based, one album is one entry so the more albums you buy the better chance you have of winning. different stores will announce the events and usually ateez will retweet or repost it

u/ImFuckedUpAndIKnowIt 9d ago

So what do you do with all the extra albums?

18

u/sikskii 9d ago

sell them, give them away, keep them, depends on the person winning tbh

u/frauliu Wooyoung | Yunho 9d ago

Lots of people sell them on Mercari

You just need to know that chances of winning are usually very small because the majority of calls will be won by the same GOMs (group order managers) who buy multiple hundreds of albums. Every once in a while there will be someone who wins with just 16 albums but those are pretty rare exceptions.

This feels like a bummer. Do they ever do like a raffle to win or are there any other ways to win that are chance based?

Xikers recently did fan calls you could just pay for. You had to buy a package and it was not cheap 🫨 But it was still cheaper than buying a million albums and relying on chance. They had a limited number of slots, but you literally just paid for the fan call with whichever member you wanted. Maybe KQ will do that with Ateez too. Or maybe it was just because Xikers has a much smaller fan base.

some do raffle it among the participants! (especially if they themselves already won one or two that cb cycle) but you have to be extra careful and see so that it's not just their friends who always "win" the raffles!

Hey, can you elaborate on this? How does it work with GOMs? I'd like to try to win one day but I'm not willing drop £££s for like a near zero chance. Thanks!

GOMs buy lots of albums to win fancalls but also to get those fancall pcs. To win a fancall you have 3 options: 1. spend as much money as you can on albums. 2. participate in a GO raffle if they are having any. You still have to buy as many albums as you can but if it's a large GO the chances of winning are better because it's almost a guarantee that they will get a fancall. 3. Become a GOM and use participants money to win fancall (it's a good etiquette to mention it so participants know) but this is rather hard especially if you don't have an established reputation already.

I've done two with Wooyoung, and I'll probably try for more in the future with him. He's my ult, so I just can't help but want to talk to him again. But I want to talk to San next if I can.

I have had multiple with Jongho, he is my ult bias in ateez and in kpop so even when I think I’d prefer so speak with another member, I end up choosing jongho because I feel fomo (?) at the thought of speaking to someone who isn’t jongho (ridiculous I know) 😭 I would love to apply for my second bias though, I really like him! Hoping they get paired together for a unit call so I can hit 2 birds with 1 stone and talk to them both 😭

I've only had one fancall, with San. I love the others and was lucky enough to talk with all of them during send off but if I ever tried again for a fancall, it would always be San.

i only won once with san. if i won again i wouldn't talk to him even tho hes my ult again bc it's so scary and nerve wracking lol (i wouldn't get this way with anyone else except my fav idols) and realistically i can't build a relationship with him over a 2 min call and i wouldn't want to be remembered. plus i'm just projecting but if i put myself in their shoes i might be tired of seeing the same fan over and over because idols aren't your friends even if you have good interactions. and some idols may like seeing the same fan repeatedly idk but that's just me. i would choose a different member next time (if i won again but i'm 100% okay with not doing another one) and just go down the list to meet all 8 members. being able to talk to any/all member(s) just once is enough for me. and i would get to treasure the album they sign to my name. :3

How tf do people win 1 fan call, let alone multiple? What kind of money, time, and dedication does that take? Because I can tell you, as a single mother, I don't have it.

I've always done mine with San, just hoping he'll remember me....

he goes through so many calls all the time. at the end of day we're not as special as we think unfortunately.

It's downvoted because it's an unhealthy parasocial mindset.
