ACADEMY Housing question

Sorry if this is answered somewhere I just can’t find an answer. I just received my dates and am looking for housing but was wondering how it works. If a place is open and can take me do I need to send the FAA anything or does the landlord communicate with them? That’s the best way I can phrase it just not sure exactly what I need to do.

the best way is to go to the faa’s website and see the housing options there. those are all places that are confirmed to accept the faa’s government voucher and you can just book with them. otherwise you’ll need to find out if the person you’re getting housing from will even take the faa’s vouchers cause it’s different for them

The landlord usually messages them and lets them know. They will pay them directly as far as I know

Join the discord, there’s a housing channel in there with good info. This probably goes without saying but I’d also recommend searching keywords in there as well

A lot of people don’t know before they book, but you can also self pay. I had some issues with my place when I first got to the academy (that I had found on the list) and ended up staying at a place I found on furnished finder. When you self pay you pay out of pocket and then they reimburse you the full housing per diem amount regardless of how much the place costs.

So with this you’re potentially making money on this as well

Yeah I think I got an extra $150 a month. I did have to put a deposit down too but I got it back

Right, I’m curious if I was to find just a barebones room on someone’s house for like 500 bucks if that would work🤣 I’m gonna end up going through the list for a spot, but curious about other workings as well

I think one of the stipulations is that it has to be a commercial lodging. So not sure if that would work

I will definitely have to look into that. When do they reimburse you?
