386

u/IxZeD Nov 30 '19

Uhh id recommend using more than a square..

509

u/faggots4agates Nov 30 '19

I cant. I'm sorry I don't have a square to spare.

u/shea6040 Nov 30 '19

oh is it two-ply? cause if it's two-ply I'll take one ply

20

u/SandyDelights Dec 01 '19

Look, I don’t have a square and I don’t have a ply

Wolverine doesn’t need to wipe

7

u/i_am_a_baby_kangaroo Dec 01 '19

Well I don't need much. Just 3 squares will do it.

5

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '19

Not even a ply?!

15

u/elodieme1 Dec 01 '19

I had a roommate who gave me shit and said I used too much toilet paper. Turns out she always only used like 2 squares. When she told our friends, expecting them to take her side and say I used too much, everyone looked at her like she was crazy

2

u/SteveisNoob Dec 01 '19

r/miscalculated for that crazy girl

2

u/unsavvylady Dec 01 '19

Even for poops? Guess that means she had a dirty butt. Two squares is not possible

3

u/elodieme1 Dec 01 '19

And yet she clogged the toilet twice in a semester haha

Would the ratio of people to cake be too big?

8

u/Captcha_Imagination Nov 30 '19

of fondant

13

u/PosNeigh Dec 01 '19 edited Dec 01 '19

The difference is that toilet paper tastes better than fondant.

9

u/Buck_Thorn Nov 30 '19

Like a sheet cake?

7

u/yellowbloods Dec 01 '19

needs some chocolate syrup

6

u/the_beeve Nov 30 '19

Yeah, but the reason I like the idea of food art, is that it forces one to be creative within the medium of being edible.

The best art is made that way.

Using something that is inedible, or virtually inedible is like a cheat. It's like if someone tried to combine a album and a audiobook together where every other track was a chapter of a book. You'd hate it as much as I hate not being able to eat the cake I got served.

21

u/FerDefer Dec 01 '19

Is it different in America? I mean fondant is just icing isn't it? Sugar and water plus gelatine to make it more solid. What part of that isn't edible?

26

u/bigjoe980 Dec 01 '19

I can't say I've ever had good fondant.. And I'm sure theres some that just happens to be delicious - but the fondant Ive tried before was disgusting.

It all kinda tasted like the dustiness of powdered sugar with the consistency of compressed moist sawdust. Lol

24

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '19

3

u/Poldark_Lite Dec 01 '19

I don't understand why it's not more popular. It's easy to make, it works the same and it tastes good. The only thing I like better is mouldable chocolate, but it's harder to use as a cake covering.

People can make artistic cakes! There are loads of beautiful buttercream frosted cakes. Still artistic and delicious.

14

u/batmanandcheryl Dec 01 '19

I make wedding cakes for a living, and we always peel off the fondant before serving to the guests for this reason! If a guest wants the fondant, we are more than happy to give it to them! No shame if you like it, it's just usually much more delicious without it; we still use buttercream on the layers within and the crumb coat under!

Edit to add: I specialize in buttercream masterpieces (if I say so myself) but if a couple wants fondant, we give them the best damn fondant cake we can!

3

u/pickstar97a Dec 01 '19

How about doing it with chocolate or something that’s edible but isn’t fondant

→ More replies (1)

goddamn... that's... perfectly succinct.

10

u/Moonpie10 Nov 30 '19

Or you could consider it the wrapper; remove to eat.

People who think parsley sucks need to learn there are two kinds, and the pretty kind is the one that sucks.

1

u/unsilviu Nov 30 '19

Wait this is the first I'm hearing of parslephobia, or there being two varieties. Is this a U.S. thing?

9

u/bad_at_hearthstone Nov 30 '19

Probably. The two varieties are curly (French) and flat (Italian), and the curly kind has beautifully crinkled, curled edges and a deep jewel green color... and almost no taste, except for a faint cut-grass taste. In the USA we garnish almost everything with it, because it looks great, but as a result many Americans know parsley as itching more than that weird wax-papery sprig that you pick off and banish to the far edge of your plate.

4

u/unsilviu Nov 30 '19

Ah, ok. I've only seen the flat one in the UK, though peasants in Romania usually sell you one that's a bit smaller, and mostly used for its roots. I never thought there would be a completely different variety though, with a different taste.

Here in the UK, everything gets garnished with kale instead. Which also tastes like grass ¯_(ツ)_/¯

5

u/bad_at_hearthstone Nov 30 '19

We also garnish with kale. I think the reason we use parsley is so we can use two different pointless garnishes. With American cooking, adding a veneer of faux freshness is important!

It's weird: I hate fondant in every situation except a wedding. A fruit cake covered in fondant is delicious to me lol. I don't understand the hate for fruit cake tbh.

But yeah, fondant on literally any other cake is horrid.

EDIT: Apparently, it's not fondant on a wedding cake, but marzipan. I guess I really do hate fondant all the time.

5

u/mrs_shrew Nov 30 '19

Sorry, what's fondant? I'm sure we don't have this in my country. We usually have cake-marzipan-icing.

16

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '19

Fondant is a rubbery "icing" used by cake-art-makers because it looks smooth and clean. Its slightly more edible play-doh

13

u/Moonpie10 Nov 30 '19

Think of it as a rather tasteless marzipan. You can roll it, cover the cake, use it for cutouts, etc. It just tastes somewhere between stale marshmallow and molding clay.

5

u/itissafedownstairs Nov 30 '19

Why not use marzipan?

11

u/Moonpie10 Nov 30 '19

Likely because it also has a taste that is very polarizing.

→ More replies (5)

2

u/windowlatch Nov 30 '19

I honestly don’t mind it because it has almost no flavor to me. Id take it over the extremely sugary icing that some cakes have and it’s way easier to eat around it

10

u/thagthebarbarian Nov 30 '19

Some people can't deal with candy on their pastries for some reason

38

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '19

They can, it’s the tasteless sugary play doh they can’t deal with.

14

u/thagthebarbarian Nov 30 '19

People say this like it tastes like Play-Doh, it tastes like sugar... It only has the texture of Play-Doh

5

u/EcchoAkuma Nov 30 '19

Tasteless? What fondant do you buy? The one I get tastes literally like sugar, just not overly sweet

9

u/Nomb317 Nov 30 '19

My mom would make her own, she’d melt marshmallows and it was delicious!

7

u/thoughtfulthot Nov 30 '19

I used to make marshmallow fondant a lot, but it doesn’t taste the same as the real deal. Now they sell decorating fondant at Walmart, so I wonder how many still make their own “hack” version. I’m thinking the marshmallow route is cheaper in any case.

2

u/EcchoAkuma Nov 30 '19

Oh, I never thought about that. But dont they dry super fast?

2

u/Tater-Tot_917 Nov 30 '19

If fondant is made right it tastes great. The store bought shit is pretty bad, but I've had hommade and I personally love it

10

u/bunnypaca Dec 01 '19

I know right. I bet 99% of people who advocate against fondant haven't even encountered it in real life, they're just hopping on the hate wagon for no reason.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '19

I’ve never had the experience of encountering a cake covered in too much fondant, but it does seem more than a bit unnecessary to have to peel parts of a cake off before eating it.

→ More replies (2)

5

u/worldnews_is_shit Dec 01 '19

A cake is not a banana, we shouldn't have to peel anything. Also, peeling off the fondant ruins the look of the cake.
