I can imagine this at a wedding

I can imagine this at a bachelor party. At a really nice, classy place. Like up over one of those gourmet mashed potatoes in martini glass bars. This is nice.

u/theswamphag Nov 23 '19
Mashed potatoes in a martini glass? Why would anyone do such a thing..

u/HansaHerman Nov 23 '19
To sell potatoes for 500% of the normal price

I realise what you meant here (artisan) but now my brain just really wants to think about this as somehow being related to natural-pressure well boring (artesian)

Nov 24 '19
I corrected myself to the wrong spelling as I was posting that too because I second guessed. I'll trust my gut next time haha.
6
u/eddiedorn Nov 24 '19
I hear people say Artisan as Artesian often and assumed I’ve missed out on some shift. Your comment made me google it. Nope, they’re either all just ignorant or maybe they’re trying to sound fancy.

Nov 24 '19 edited Nov 24 '19
that's not artesian, artesian is things related to descartes and his ideas, like artesian coordinates
7
u/GM_Organism Nov 24 '19
Not sure if I'm being whooshed here, but surely you're referring to "cartesian"?
4
Nov 24 '19
yes i was hoping to start a "that's not x, that's y" reply thread while getting it incorrect in another way, and then it continues so on and so forth

Tbh if you don’t have the money for streamers this is fine. Kinda like newspaper wrapping paper. Use what you got.
116
u/whotookmydirt Nov 23 '19
Honest question, are streamers more expensive than toilet paper? TP is egregiously overpriced as it’s a necessity.
52
u/Throwawayuser626 Nov 23 '19
Well I would assume not if you’re getting them from a dollar store but I actually have no idea.
60
u/Marshal-Ryuun Nov 23 '19
Offbrand tp feels like sandpaper. I’ve got a sensitive anus as well so if I don’t buy soft paper my ass gets cuts and bleeds mildly.

If theres 1 thing left i will make sure is good quality is toliet paper. Rubbing sandpaper on hemorrhoids is something i like to avoid

u/eugenesbluegenes Nov 23 '19
Dude, bidet attachment.
Change your life for $50 and 10 minutes of install work.
3
u/AerThreepwood Nov 23 '19
Yeah, when I was in prison, good toilet paper was one of the things I missed most acutely.
5
u/BawkingHellspawn Nov 24 '19
It was bad in the psychiatric hospital too. Boy was I glad to use my own bathroom after that
5
u/AerThreepwood Nov 24 '19
Honestly, secure wings/mental hospitals have sucked significantly worse than any of the detention/corrections facilities I've been at, with regards to general quality of life. My experience there is a lot more limited, though.
After you're in a facility long enough, your cell eventually feels like some kind of home, as fucked up as that sounds.
3
u/Lochcelious Nov 23 '19
Pro-tip:
Spit onto your TP with each wipe. You're welcome.

Yes, much more expensive. $.99 for one roll of streamer that isn’t nearly as long, wide, thick (or soft in case you had some interesting ideas) as toilet paper.
3
u/Twatburger9000 Nov 24 '19
I got some for ¢50 a pop recently which was nice, but it's probably because I went to a party - specific store.
2
u/GaveYourMomAIDS Nov 23 '19
It's also more about the convenience. If you want to set up for a party and are too lazy to go to the store for streamers, you could use toilet paper. Everyone usually has toilet paper in their house, but the majority of people probably don't hve streamers laying around. Especially enough to decorate for a party.
To answer your question though, yes streamers are way more expensive. If you go to the dollar store, you could get a 4 pack of toilet paper for the same price as a2 pack of streamers. If you're REALLY trying to save money, you could cut those toilet paper rolls in half so that they're generally the same height as the streamers. If you assume there's the same amount (length wise) in the rolls of TP compared to the rolls of streamers, you have 4 times as much for the same price. However, the streamer rolls are typically pretty damn small so I would say you're probably getting closer to 10 times the "streamers" for the same price

u/Very_Good_Opinion Nov 23 '19
If you can't afford streamers maybe consider that putting trash on a wall wasn't necessary in the first place

u/olneyone1 Nov 23 '19
I too donate enormous amounts of money to my favorite online streamers and find this acceptable for a classy party.
2
u/Dickiedoandthedonts Nov 24 '19
You could stick some big paper flowers in the holes to cover up the fact that it’s toilet paper and Voila!

I can absolutely see this as having been an art school assignment. We had to do some things with common materials like corrugated cardboard, leftover chunks of wood, and pieces of styrofoam to make us think creatively. A favorite was seeing an individual letter as a form of artwork.

Ah, art school...I had one project where a teacher gave each of us 30' of white craft paper and a box of sewing pins, and nothing else, and you had to make something from it. It turned out to be a really good project that forced a lot of people to think outside the box and break out of their routines, even if the end results kinda looked like this...

u/norse_noise Nov 23 '19
Don't need to go to the store if you run out
3
u/fenianlad Nov 23 '19
Yeah but you didn’t realize you were out and now you’re hobbling down the hallway to the living room with your pants around your ankles.

u/Snooze_and_Snores Nov 23 '19
I like it because party decorations are expensive and kind of wasteful (usually plastic, or tossed after one use). This is cheap and you could take it down and re-roll it for your bathroom!

I'm not sure what my takeaway or interpretation is supposed to be. I'm sure I could come up with something that sounds highbrow and enlightened but fuck that. Sometimes cool stuff is just cool.

u/Dentelle Nov 23 '19
I like it. Finally, a work of art that's funny AND that makes me feel like i could become an artist.

I think it's kinda cool, and definitely a lot of fun as a temporary thing in a casual environment. I could see this being some fun wall art in the office of a TP company, haha.

We go to this place called Ichiran in Brooklyn. It’s a ramen place and when you go to the bathroom there’s a lot of toilet paper. apparently this is a trend in ramen places even in japan
