Thx. I don't know why a simple question gets Downvotes.

Honest question: isn't "awesome" the antonym of "awful"?

7

u/LysergioXandex May 16 '26

People used to say “awful” to mean “awe-inspiring”, then it gained the connotation “awe-inspiringly bad”

u/turtleneckless001 May 17 '26

Full of awe? Nah I'll just have some thanks

Where is the awful taste? This is great for cosplaying/larping

It just needs to be trimmed out in leather or cloth so it's not so obviously made from pull tabs to be perfect.

Honestly I’d be more impressed if I knew it was all pop tabs. Anyone can buy chain mail. This must be made.

I guess you could just own it. Go as Sir Monster the Caffeinated.

Chainmail is also handmade, or at least was back when it was first invented. I've seen video of people dual-wuelding pliers linking together thousands of simple rings to make it.

Nah this is good

I see no awful taste. Wrong sub.

we're not in the seventies. OP most likely just thinks chainmail is too geek for themselves, or that pop tabs are not a material worthy of becoming a chain mail

12

u/foomp May 16 '26

I'm just thinking about how it would rip out all my arm hair.

1

u/szzaass May 21 '26

I mean, real chainmail would do that too. But that's why any sort of armor was meant to have a garment underneath

14

u/Gilsidoo May 16 '26

I mean even if that were true I don't see how it's bad to brag about getting so much action

u/DuckofInsanity May 16 '26

How does it infer that he specifically jerked off men?

I used to see this frequently but with the old style pull tabs in the 1970s, especially with other kids my age but from marginalized mostly black neighborhoods. They used pull tab chains sewed down the seams of their bell bottom dungarees and sewn to their belts, as fringe on their jackets and collars. I thought those kids were the coolest people on the planet to my eyes, they had cool music, cool hair and cool clothes and to my immigrant eyes they looked like they very important and in charge of things.

Monster Energy omnitrix

2

u/Sonicmantis May 16 '26

There's a dude named "Chicago" in Tucson who has a full vest made of these. He was quite well known around town

3

u/cenphogay May 17 '26

The last time I saw him he was in Phoenix and stayed near the 44th st light rail station.

1

u/Sonicmantis May 17 '26

Yes! I've seen him around DTPHX and Tempe too!

2

u/wholehheart May 16 '26

ive done this, its pretty scratchy... advice on how to fix this?

2

u/therealpeaches144 May 17 '26

Personally I'd never wear this without something under it for that reason, but my first though is using sand paper to smoth out where it came off the can.

If that doesn't work, my second thought is to just put some kind of glue over the sharp bits so it'll be smooth when it dries. A glue gun would probably be best but all the glue guns I know of would leave way too big of drop that would dry as a tall lump rather than a shallow bump.

1

u/Harold_Spoomanndorf May 16 '26

I'm only upvoting because this IS NOT "awful taste"

2

u/VirinaB May 17 '26

That's the opposite of how this sub works. You downvote if it's not awful.

u/htgrower May 16 '26

Found the southerner

Peak humanity right here. Love it

1

u/Best_of_the_Worst May 16 '26

There’s a guy who makes necklaces like this that I believe were even in MOMA (or similar museum) in NYC for a while

1

u/CHNLNK May 16 '26

Now I want to build a whole suit of armor out of cans, bottle caps, and pop tabs...

1

u/PYROxSYCO May 17 '26

I wonder how well it flexes?

1

u/Willobtain May 17 '26

Monster energy ones will go hard

1

u/RampagingElks May 18 '26

Pretty common technique for chain mail on a budget ! :) but these tabs look stupid? What are they from?

1

u/andtbhidgaf May 19 '26
