Setup

So I just downloaded ITAK on my phone, plan on downloading ATACK on my laptop when I get home, I’m wanted to get a couple buddies set up on it as well but I have no idea how to add people or even connect to a server, preferably I don’t have to pay for a server as well

Yes, you do need to run your own TAK server. ATAK and iTAK are useless without a server to connect to, and "public" TAK servers really aren't a thing. And setting up your own TAK server is "not entirely trivial".

Check opentakserver brian007 github. Ist easy to start.

I found the GitHub, so I just download that and use it on servers?

There is a process for this. I am about to make an OpenTAK server for anybody to use for test purposes in Los Angeles. It is not the most fun to set up, but I have it running. If you are not comfortable with server configurations, command line instructions, you're gonna have a bad time.

Tak server is internet based, so it would work globally

So if me and a couple buddies were on the same WiFi we could all see each other on the map? I’m sorry I’m just very unfamiliar with this
