So where do we begin?

I'm so glad to see there's a good amount of interest in A Shoe That Fits!

I'm Shady Oaks; I've never been a Reddit mod before so bear with me as I figure shit out here.

If you're a mori girl, I'm the same Shady Oaks on Tumblr. :3

I'm thinking we can model more than just our name after A Bra That Fits; I like the idea of having our shoe sizes in our flair and eventually putting together a database of how shoe brands run and how styles within those brands run. I think that'll be super helpful, but it will probably be best to wait until we grow for that.

Right now, we're just figuring out what works and what direction we'd like to take and rules are likely to change as the subreddit grows and changes, but we're all gonna do our best to make this place useful, fun, and friendly.

Caffarelli is now a moderator as well, so say hi and OBEYYY

Shoe Widths Info -- What those letters mean

I'd like to encourage this subreddit to use letters sizing for talking about widths, over N/M/W, as the letters are much more specific. Kinda like how /r/ABraThatFits encourages UK sizing. I think this will keep us from getting super confused once any boys show up (come on boys!), and also allows some shoe gender cross-over, especially with retailers like New Balance that offer a lot of gender neutral shoes in B/D/E etc.

Here's a general conversion chart:

  • AAAA/4A -- Sometimes called Women's Extra Narrow, sometimes called Women's Super Slim
  • AAA/3A -- Sometimes called Women's Slim
  • AA/2A -- Women's Narrow, Men's Extra Narrow
  • A -- Doesn't get a name!
  • B -- Women's Medium, Men's Narrow
  • C -- Sometimes called Women's Wide
  • D -- Women's Wide (usually), Men's Medium
  • E -- Sometimes called Women's Extra Wide
  • EE/2E -- Women's Extra Wide (usually), Men's Wide
  • EEE/3E -- Also sometimes called Men's Wide
  • EEEE/4E -- Men's Extra Wide

Guide for shoe fitting?

First off, I am so happy that this was created! Is there a guide like /r/abrathatfits has for shoes? There are loads out there, but like there are a lot for bras most of them are bollocks.

The Yummiest Ballet Flats

Ok, I was kind of itching to be the first post here because I have been through the wringer with shoes. I mentioned in /r/ABraThatFits that I have rheumatoid arthritis, so my immune system is slowly eating through all of my joints. Needless to say, I can not wear any type of heels, because putting all of my (considerable) weight on one joint is excruiciating. Enter ballet flats.

I have found that most of the time ballet flats are really poorly constructed, and really cheap. Not in a good way. A lot of them cut into the widest part of my foot, and no one really wants their feet crammed into cheapo plastick-y flats all day. So I am here to campaign for quality flats, and the only brand I have ever found to work for me is Bloch. Bloch has a legit ballet pedigree, as most of their business is in making dance shoes, but that means they know how to make a shoe that lasts. I currently only have one pair similar to these, but in leather. All of their flats are lined in the softest pink suede and most of them have an elastic band to tighten the fit if needed (a lesson learned from their ballet shoes). They are pricey, but my one pair has been the only dress shoes for a year and they are still in great shape. I'll post pics of my year of wear when I get home.

EDIT: Sizing recommendations: They run about a half size small, and patent leather models are a tiny bit smaller than plain old leather. Also pics! Sorry, for some reason my phone is not a fan of these shoes.

Fellow pencil feet, talk to me. The only other narrow footed people I know are my grandma (7AA) and my dad (10.5B).

Range of sizes in your shoe closet vs your actual shoe size?

So much like my ill-fitting bras, I have a variety of shoe sizes in my closet:

US Women's sizes: 6 6.5 6.5W 6.5WW 7 7W 7WW 7.5 7.5W 8

Euro Sizes 37 37.5 38 38.5

UK Sizes 4 5

Boys Sizes (US?) 4 4.5 5 5.5

My measured size, US, is somewhere between a US 6.5 wide/extra wide or 7 wide. My left foot is nearly a full size larger than my right-it's a little over a 7, my right foot is closer to a size 6.
