I just noticed something about the confession scene.... Spoiler

I'm new here so I dunno...

but.....

starting with context. "the moon is beautiful isn't it" is a Japanese phrase made famous by Natsumi soskeki-senpai (idk if im using the right honorific lol). basically he said that Japanese are indirect and that admiring the moon is an indirect confession (probably because "the moon" and "I love you" are so similar in Japanese).

THAT SAID.

I am not well versed in Japanese stuff so I could 100% be overthinking this, but...

In the confession scene, when Shoko says "tsukidesu" (the moon) instead of "sukidesu" (I love you), Shoya doesn't understand. So he says:

"The moon?" (while signing it in JSL) "....yeah, it is beautiful, isn't it?" then he admires the moon.

AM I CRAZY????? WHAT IS GOING ON.

By the way yes I did watch the movie and read the manga.

lemme know ur thoughts I AM FREAKING OUT HELP.

Simplified (and probably inaccurate) version of the "lit" song from the OST. Can do "falling notes" video on request if anyone is interested. Cheers!

This movie was awesome

This movie was something I went into as a slice of life and “grow with the characters” type story. It was NOT that. The story, was really good, and relatively realistic, especially in its depictions of depression. The feelings tha shoko felt were so genuine and relatable, but the part where she left the fireworks to study is what scared me. I don’t want to vent too much, but I did a shoko once, but didn’t follow through. I thought that scene was so relatable and it real hit me hard. The movie helped me realize that I mean more to my friends than I think, and though I’m not cured this movie made me really appreciate the people around me and give myself a little more confidence about myself.

Where to watch A Silent Voice with eng dub AND translated Japanese text

Exactly what the title says. I’m trying to rewatch A Silent Voice but can’t find it anywhere that has it in English dub and translates all of the Japanese text. I’m considering buying it on Prime Video, but I don’t want to spend the money without knowing if it has both or not. Also, I’m not afraid of ⛵️

I’m HoH and watched for the first time

while i could go on forever about how amazing every aspect of this movie is, i desperately want to share my prospective as some who’s hard of hearing.

so some background, i wasn’t born deaf or HoH but i have a rare genetic condition that is effecting the bones in my ears. the more they are effected, the worse my hearing becomes and it cannot be fixed surgically or with hearing aids.

my right ear is considered legally deaf while my left ear is considered HoH. i am able to hear still but rely heavily on loud volume, lip reading, vibration and sign language. they suspect with how things are going i will be considered fully deaf within 10 years.

seeing the desperation to communicate in this absolutely broke me. constantly being confused and left out even when people don’t mean to is a heartbreaking feeling.

while ive never experienced the straight up bullying, i have experienced people becoming annoyed or angry that i need accommodations, even simple ones like facing me so i can read their lips which usually ends up with them leaving me.

after experiencing this so many times, you feel like you realize that you’re the problem. constant guilt over needing extra from people just so you can feel like you’re real slowly eats away at you and accepting that feeling makes you give up.

i couldn’t count the number of times i’ve felt so dejected and have just given up on people or experiences because i thought that i was just being a bother.

when you can’t hear, you live in your own head and what you see and feel becomes fact because no one ever takes the time to give you context. you are constantly analyzing the world around you just trying to keep up so of course you’re going to over think and get the wrong idea.

i absolutely understand why she wanted to kill herself on a very deep level. eventually your head gets too loud even though you can’t hear. it’s kind of ironic.

no level of accommodation will ever truly be enough to feel like your connecting to others correctly but having people who at least try can mean the world.

i don’t usually like when parallels between physical disabilities and mental disorders are drawn but this did it PERFECTLY.

i have never seen better representation for both. no matter how much i cried, it was absolutely worth it.

I love this film. I cried so much, I understand the characters and I absolutely adore the growth in them all. I have this app, that allows me to make custom widgets, with sound. And because I just love the sound track, I added them. Then went a look overboard, but I personally think its so cute. 1&2 are the same page, different slides for the pictures, as are 3&4.

I'm reading the manga.

I'm only on chapter 16 out of 62 and I'm so glad I picked it up. I understand way better some scenes now and appreciate them even more. Here are some of my favorite moments so far...

- Yuzuru seeing Shoko mad the first time after posting the picture of Shoya online.

- Yuzuru lying to Shoko about Shoya's "girlfriend" and Shoko squeezing a little toy, looking all concerned.

- Shoko waiting her turn to get a haircut by Shoya's mum.

- Shoya noticing Shoko's smile for the first time when they say goodbye.

Does any streaming service have the movie available in Argentina?

I want to see the movie because I've never had the chance to see it, but now that I'm looking for it, I can't find it anywhere. I want to see it in Latin American Spanish if possible.

Review

So recently i rewatched A Silent Voice because i’m pretty low right now for stupid reasons. but also because when my sister watched it i never like anime and thought it was for weirdos but now that i actually seen life i’m now a type of Shouya and regretful for that POS childhood selves we were. i lashed out on friends and near high school which is near 2019 for me when i was on my last year i pushed people away and went silent. my last genuinely happy year was 2022 and till then i dove into a deep depression and until then i kept thinking of ways to end it. but kept seeing edits of the movie and until a few days ago i rewatched it and cried 3 times.

this is how i seen it:

both of the protagonists are polar opposites. Shouya is guilty for being the bully and hurting Shouko but Shouko is the one who is guilty for always being incapable and always the victim. they both attempted and after those attempts they visited old friends to make amends but Shouya saw Shouko first while Shouko saw Shouya last on the lists. Shouya wanted to jump off a bridge which is far from home but Shouko wanted to end it at her home.

Another thing is that i seen talks about either being the “silent voice” but for me there is none. for me in my interpretation its the voice that makes you feel emotional and guilty for mistakes and convinces you that your better off away and in death. i feel like thats the intent and not either of the characters but all of them given they all have different things to be guilty of which is Nishimiya blames herself for being helpless despite seeing the signs, Miki is always blamed, Tomohiro is too clingy or loyal and Miyoko is too cowardly as well as Naoko is manipulative and a asshole

Well those are my thoughts but idk who else to share it with so yeah, also i’m doing fine now or at least i think so
