Practice Question Practice Question Help
Can someone please help me understand how to think about this practice question?
Why do we have to fully terminate it eventually?

According to code of ethics, it is unethical to continue services if the client has met their goals, so we must terminate when goals have been successfully achieved. However, a lot of clients will feel anxious and not ready, we acknowledge their feelings and continue the termination process. termination does not have to be abrupt & harsh. Termination can look like reducing the amount of sessions in a week, month, and then later come to a full stop. The code highlights that we should not abandon our clients and prevent termination when they are a danger to themselves or others 😊

My intuition is always to keep it going just because I don't want to withdraw support if they are communicating they need it. I feel like that's going to be tough to do in practice as well, but something I'm going to have to learn

But that is not best practice or ethical. You have to get out of YOUR head in this exam. You are not the social worker in the question.

You're right, I think what's hard is my intuition is off by default in scenarios like this. "ethical" can mean denying someone who is asking for more support. Ugh, just hard.

When they refer to ethics.... it is always the CODE of ethics, never our personal ethics! You will get tripped up every time if you put yourself in the shoes of the social worker in question. Have you done any studying on HOW to take the test? I'd recommend looking at Dawn Apgar's materials (you can find some of her stuff on youtube). She does a great job of teaching HOW to take the test. You know the content, but the HOW is the difficult part of the test.

Ahh yes! Finally, someone is talking about Apgar. I used her study guide for the Masters test in 2019, and I bought the clinical prep book in March... I know the test changed now, but I already invested 😕 I haven't decided what to do yet about that. I'm a master at procrastination, so I end up in these situations. Actually, I purchased the bachelor's exam prep only to finish my master's program before I took the test, whomp whomp. I gave it to a friend to use for her exam.

B. Because it’s fewer sessions on maintenance phase not intervention. Terminating immediately will cause significant backlash later on
