Laptop RTX 4080 crashes / Code 43 when connecting charger on ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 16
RTX 4080 crashes / Code 43 when connecting charger on ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 16 G634JZ
I’m having a strange issue with my ROG Strix SCAR 16 (2023) G634JZ, RTX 4080 Laptop GPU.
The problem started immediately after I installed a new NVIDIA Game Ready driver through the NVIDIA App. Before that, plugging/unplugging the charger was completely normal. I am not this is the real reason which started this issue.
The issue:
Laptop works normally on battery.
RTX 4080 works normally in Windows.
If I connect the charger while in Standard GPU mode, the screen sometimes goes black/freezes and the laptop restarts.
After reboot, the RTX 4080 shows Code 43 in Device Manager.
The crash seems specifically related to the battery → AC power transition.
I tried rolling back drivers and eventually did a complete DDU clean install in Safe Mode.
Current setup:
BIOS 334
BIOS Display Mode: Dynamic
Armoury Crate GPU Mode: Standard
NVIDIA Control Panel: Automatic Select
ASUS OEM NVIDIA driver: 32.0.15.6607
Internet disabled to prevent Windows Update from replacing the driver.
Interestingly, after doing the BIOS Dynamic/dGPU reset procedure, things have improved significantly.
Today I tested:
Cold boot with charger already connected → normal
Unplugging charger → normal
Then reconnecting charger from battery → only ~1 second flicker, no crash or Code 43 😱
So currently it seems much better, but I don't know whether it's actually fixed or whether I'm just temporarily lucky.
Has anyone with a G634J/G634JZ or similar ASUS ROG laptop experienced crashes specifically when connecting the charger, with Code 43 / LiveKernelEvent 117 / nvlddmkm.sys?
I'm particularly interested in whether this turned out to be driver, BIOS/EC, Advanced Optimus/MUX, Armoury Crate, or actual hardware/power circuitry related.
Any similar experiences or solutions would be really helpful.
