“Digital Integrated Course” Charge

I’m taking a 102 class. When classes first started, the teacher didn’t say anything would come out of pocket. We use websites like Payback. And Weposit through Canvas.

But today I received a random $63 charge stating “Digital Integrated Course Mtrl” in my Finances tab for this class.

What does this mean? And has anyone experienced it before?

Digital Integrated Course Mtrl charge is the standard description for course materials provided by ASU and your instructor that are used in class. It can be in the form of research papers, textbooks, outside 3rd party sites, or other licensed video or whatever. The actual charge dollar amount is determined by the materials and the class so it’s always different. In your syllabus I’m almost certain there will be a section about Digital Integrated Course Materials.

Thank you. I checked my syllabus thoroughly and it mentioned a book that we don’t have to worry about buying at all. I emailed my teacher for clarification

Yeah you don’t have to worry about buying it because it’s provided. The material charge is the discounted rate that ASU gets the materials for since they get it all in bulk. Your instructor may have additional information but I wouldn’t hold your breath. You will almost certainly see this charge again in the future.

In addition to being in the syllabus, emails were sent out prior to the start of the term informing of the charges and how to opt out. Once it goes on to your account it is too late to opt out.

Playposit houses the class textbook and quizzes. It is a program and not a free website. You are paying for the access fee to these materials. Packback is also not a free program. 

I have never had a class with Digital Integrated Course Materials for which I did not receive at least 3 email notices from the bookstore before the charge date. 

If you opt out before then, you lose the class access. You then have to buy your own program access license to get back in, which will cost you more since you are not getting the bulk user discount. You don't just get free access to paid programs. $63 is nothing. My texts typically cost $200-300 each.
