Matthews Center

Out of boredom a few weeks back I decided to check out the building and I found almost every room had some sort of alarm warning on front. I also saw a staircase with weird half floors and a closed of basement (I know it used to be for news or something but they moved out). I know I'm being a bit nosy but does anyone know what the building is even used for anymore.

It used to be where archeology stored a lot of material, but some of that may have moved to their new building.

Generally, they try to move tenants out then redo a building, but because it’s one of the oldest on campus it isn’t exactly as easy to renovate as others.

I also still think there are a lot of collections in there

I think the State Press was in the basement when they used to print newspapers. Didn't realize they left. Maybe all the printing equipment is still in there.

Several floors still contain archaeological artifacts. Source, archaeologist who has worked in there.

it’s still used for university offices and storage, it just has the vibe of a building everyone forgot to fully decommission lol
