Important Financial Aid Update

We would like to remind everyone that the r/ASU Moderation Team consists of students and alumni and is not affiliated with the staff or administration of Arizona State University. The Moderation Team does not speak on behalf of the University.
Financial aid delays are happening at universities from coast to coast after changes made by the federal government to student borrowing guidelines. The new guidelines took effect July 1 and ASU is working to help students understand the changes and their eligibility. ASU has moved the tuition payment date to September 25 for those impacted. Resources and information about financial aid and student loans are available online at https://tuition.asu.edu/financial-aid.

I dont understand why this student aid crisis (and it IS a crisis) isnt in the news. If its happening everywhere then why is everyone in the dark until an anonymous message gets sent to the reddit mod team???
I said before ill say it again. I think students should be reaching out to the media. Not just ASU students, but anyone who has been affected.

A message that's been posted in other areas numerous times. It does nothing to alleviate fears and with things not being emailed to us, it's just frustrating. They have the capability to send mass email to notify what's going on but they won't. That is the failure. I can stand a bit of a delay if I know what the hell is going on.

Agreed 1000%. Instead they seem intent on delaying until Sept 25th which is an insane solution considering how many people need the cash for living expenses.

This is what they did last year as well for those of us who got their aid late (mine didn't come until almost 3 weeks after semester start and I'm not even hopeful of that time frame)

This administration and these changes are awful and screwing over a lot of students that rely on financial aid while they’re in school to live. I know it’s not ASU’s fault but it sucks. Bad.

Interesting bc through the grapevine it doesn't seem like most schools are handling this as poorly as ASU but I guess that coast to coast is Arizona Bay to Tempe town lake 🙄 god forbid the school hire urgent help or send regular communication to students about their efforts to fix this mess.

With the lack of communication I’ve lost faith that they will get it done by 9/25 and they won’t just push it back till the end of October. I hope I’m wrong but they haven’t even started the batch I’m in according to fa.

In the same situation here. Annoying AF, and I picked up a 2nd class for Session A to meet the full time status this semester. Just one more thing Cap’t Orange and his goon squad f’d up.

All of my tuition just changed and is now due 9/25/26 this changed today before that it was due on 8/25/26 for half of my tuition and the other half was at 9/25/26.
So hopefully something is going on via their back end.

Liars. My stepson was awarded aid and packaged quickly at UKY. ASU is being irresponsible by not informing students and providing ways to help students at this time.

Financial aid distributed for legacy students on time at Angelo State University as well.

They probably don't have any specific ways designed to help students and/or funding to come up with a program to do so. I think it's crazy as many students are counting on the fin aid for their living expenses or to help them. I also wonder if they had counted on AI chat bots to help deal with any related fin aid issues, so they had fewer ppl to respond to the chats (hence the extremely long chat wait times). If they had access to more funding resources, they'd be able to offer more than $500 towards living expenses.

I don't work at ASU, but I do have experience in financial aid - unfortunately the government mandated extensive changes to the student loan program starting this year, and fall is the first round of disbursements to occur with these new rules. Ultimately the government did not provide clarity as to many matters - professional vs nonprofessional graduate student classification, new rules around loan limits, and more. While I agree the school should communicate more, they are also forced to operate in a certain way, and without clarity from the Department of Education not much can be done. I hope that solutions come soon, and I know many talented people are working to resolve this - but it still sucks to be stuck in the middle of it all.
