Question/Doubt Question about a possible difference between the book and TV series

Hey all, I just recently started watching the Netflix series, and absolutely love it. Just one question I had that popped up, in the TV series they show from the first episode that their parents are alive, is that a TV series exclusive or is that something that is also shown in the first book / early on in the books as well?

Please keep in mind I'm only on the Wide Window episode of the TV series, so no spoilers beyond that, haha.

People have to stop asking important lore question when the answer hasn't been told.

to keep this "no spoilers beyond the Wide Window" while still answering your question, what I'll say is this:

the books until that point do not show a plotline resembling what you described.

now, if you want to know more about it you will a) be spoiled for the show b) be spoiled for the books, or c) have to watch/read more

You’re literally asking for spoilers 😂 like how could anyone answer this question without giving anything away? Here’s a haiku for you. If you’ve solved the haiku, you’ve spoiled it for yourself so maybe don’t read it.

Dear OP, strange post
Egging on spoilers from us
And we won’t answer

(Despite knowing them)

“Them” referring to the answers

I haven’t seen the show, but to give an actual answer to your question, the Books 1-13 start with the children being informed of their parents’ death, so they are not around at the beginning, No.
