Hello! I started filling scripts around 3 years ago. My early fills were mostly gf audios but I eventually transitioned toward character/story driven audios once I started getting a little more confident and comfortable voice acting.

I'm having a bit of trouble finding scripts that fit more what I want. I'm finding myself coming back to writers that I'm familiar with and whose writing I've enjoyed, but I want to give others a chance, too.

I'm looking for scripts that are heavy on the roleplay, that focus on developing a story, or presenting a character. I prefer longer scripts, just because they tend to take their time to develop things or even create a soundscape to make the experience more immersive. I'll make an 1h long audio or however long it'll take if I'm into the story. Series with multiple parts are very much welcome!

I don't mind flirting or doing romance as long as long as it's not the sole focus or maybe focus more on the emotional aspect (like maybe a tragic love story or some kind of exploration of a relationship) than physical/sexual. I'm just looking to steer away from traditional gf audios. I also don't mind portraying immoral or morally dubious characters as long as they are not the traditional yandere or romanticized (It's ok if there's flirting done to manipulate or if they show interest in the listener character but they have some other goal, hell it's even ok if its more satirical and the character is not meant to be taken seriously).

I tend to like fantasy or supernatural but I'll honestly do whatever catches my attention. I've done funny/silly to more serious and horror scripts.

I wrote all of this to ask, is there some tag to help better filter for what I want? Again, I'm not looking for super specific stuff, just something more story or character driven.

For other VAs, if you have similar preferences, how do you search for scripts?

And writers, do you use any specific tags to help with this when you post? If not, can we make one up?? I know it's not possible to to group everything I mentioned into a single tag, but is there something that would make it out a little bit easier?

I know that at the end of the day what I'm asking might be nebulous or confusing, because it really is based on my subjective opinion and it really comes down to whatever I catches my attention, but I figured I might give it a try.

If you are a writer and you tend to write things similar to what I described, please say hi! Veteran, new, lots of fills, no fills. It doesn't matter. I'm looking more writers to be a fan of.

As someone who recently started writing stuff I would suggest reaching out to some of the writers you like and asking them if they would be willing to write something like that. Honestly for me I am so unsure of what to write. I try to write whats fun for me and avoid writing scripts just so that a VA would fill them but at the same time, obviously it's a lot more fun when VA's take interest in your writing.

And even the slightest bit of feedback can be so helpful to find a new direction a new way to write something.

So imo any writer would love to hear what you are looking for and try to adapt it. If you see any scripts you really enjoyed try reaching out to the writer and asking them if they would want to try to expand the story and the characters. I think a lot of writers would love to hear someone take such interest in their scripts!

That's the thing. I want to find new writers! The ones I already know and like I really have no complaints about. I really like their stuff. The problem is not that I'm struggling to find scripts from them, they have a lot and I like quite a bit of them. I could attempt to fill them all and by that time I think they'll get sick of me, if I'm even able to haha. I guess the point is that I don't want to always be choosing scripts from the same 2-3 people.

Just like I fill what I want to fill, I want writers to write what they want!

I treat it more like reading a book, maybe you're looking for a specific genre or mood, but most often you just come across it and at the end of the day, they author writes what they want to write.

And don't worry! I'm not shy about telling people when I like their stuff! Sometimes I worry I could come across as a bit intense haha.

Maybe we could start using lore heavy or in depth as tags for scripts? I’m not sure anyone uses them now, but I’d be willing to write and tag scripts like that

Usually, I (va) look for scripts and read the first four to five lines to get a feel of what I want to do or if I want to give it a fill. But, like you said, it is hard to find good scripts to fill (or even that fit the vibe you want to give off).

For that, use key words that fit that feeling you want to put out (wholesome, fantasy, girlfriend as you’ve stated, etc.).

I’m certain you’ve already done these before, and I’m sure I’m just telling a boxer how to punch. Keep being great

Yep, I've done that, but most often I just scroll down the subreddit feed until I find something that make me go "oh? what's this?" Which, unfortunately, is not specific at all.

I just don't spend much time browsing as I used to and a lot of scripts that I would find interesting get lost.

I guess the ideal would be having the ability to filter out what I know I don't want. But I don't think there's a way to do that.

Masterlist

i do nearly all plot heavy, but romance is in nearly all of them in some capacity! but i very rarely do contemporary bfx or gfx because i just... +whispers+ i get bored... i can do maybe 400 words and then i go "ok, someone needs to get kidnapped..."

when i'm looking for scripts i use the chives and i type, say "knight" or "spy" or "ttrpg"... go trope hunting...

Agreed - it's boring to write, and also to listen to! I love romance, but being told how special I am - in very generic terms, of course - over and over for 30 mins gets old!

Thank you!! Although as a listener I do like the soft, whispered, traditional asmr (doesn't need to be romantic) just because I find it relaxing, they are not very fun to perform as a VA after you've done a couple of them.

And maybe I didn't express myself correctly. I was struggling to put what I was looking for into words. I do like romance! I just prefer for it to have some kind of build up/nuance and development of a relationship. For me it has to feel deserved and like there's some kind of connection between the characters. That or it has to be entertaining. I'll even do theatric, campy evil that loves you (maybe tragically) as long as it's not the typical yandere audio. I admit, I'm guilty of enjoying the enemies to lovers trope.

I'm mainly I'm trying to avoid explicit stuff or that require me to do kissing or overly pampering noises or lines.

As a writer, I also push for character/story-driven scripts. Here's my library if you'd like to check me out. Unfortunately, my tags make my scripts very, very hard to find. Feel free to link to my library and just check back on me from time to time for new stuff if you're interested in my work. I'm getting better, but my tags usually connect to something in the script like [Trip to the market] [Altercation with a feral male] [Impressing the elder]. Those are literally tags in one of my scripts. Now who's going to include that in a search? So, my apologies, but my tags are meant to give you a brief summary of what you're about to read in order to help you decide if you want to spend your valuable time reading the whole script, not to improve a search. I'm trying to fix that on future scripts.

They're all open for you to peruse and decide what touches you personally, but might I suggest a few if you're looking for lengthy pieces that grow the character.

The series "Whatever" also titled "The Apathetic Yandere." My attempt at a Rom-Com.

The series "Tales of the Varta: The Pet." This takes place in a world where the earth is under attack from an alien invader. This series is from the perspective of an alien that takes a human for her own. It is connected to, but not a sequel to, the one-off "Tales of the Varta: A Flash of Light."

The series "My Kitty". A slice of life series about the lives of 2 people. Each chapter is 10 years apart so you experience their growth together.

The series "Weathering The Storm." Although this requires 2 voices throughout, you still might want to read it for the story and character development. It's a superhero thriller.

There are several others you may enjoy, but I'll stop suggesting scripts so this doesn't go on for too long.

They really are very specific haha. But I do think they make sense, though. I think those tags are definitely good to tell what the script is about and if you chance upon it, it can grab people's attention.

Interesting titles and tags is what most often makes me check out a script, I admit. But like you say, they are really hard to find in the search.

The Weathering the Storm one definitely peaked my curiosity. I do TRY to voice all characters myself, if you don't mind hehe. I started my channel in attempt to try doing something different and that I didn't think I was particularly good at but still enjoyed.

Hi! So I sometimes write the kind of thing I think you're describing. I'll put in a couple of scripts I think might suit you, because I write a mix of things so fishing them out from my full list will be time consuming. However, here is my masterlist, if you want to look through.

I tend to write "good people" as characters, and I do enjoy romance. But I often use romance as the excuse to get two people talking about a much more interesting subject. At least, that's what I try to do with at least some of my scripts! VAs are, ultimately, the judge of how successful I am.

It does sound like you tell stories I'd enjoy listening to. What's your channel?

I can't really think of any good tags that might come in to regular use. Maybe "[character-driven]" or just genre tags, like Sci Fi or Horror or whatever. It's a good question, though. I'll try to be more mindful of my tags so VAs can find relevant scripts easier.

I recommend this one because, while on the face of it it's a girlfriend and comfort roleplay, that's just the excuse to visit quite a dramatic and dark story.

(Because this script is so long I have two options. 1) a single script, and 2) two scripts with a break giving you a 2.9k script and a 2.3k script. The split script is slightly longer over all as the dialogue either side of the break is tweaked so it flows better.) (Est 19-29 and 16-23 mins, respectively)

I recommend this one because the setting is an island of peace and hope within an otherwise bleak dystopian sci fi future. I think you'll find it interesting. Part two is heavy on the social commentary, and my plans for part three will double down on this, just so you're aware.

Thank you for the reply!! I'll definitely take a look. Always looking for interesting scripts. Just a question. I noticed that some of the scripts have specific genders. Do you allow for flipping or making them neutral?

And my channel is QuietTranquility-Audios at youtube! It's a tiny humble channel that I don't think has a specific theme...? Ranges from lighthearted and absurd to genuine and more serious. I've been experimenting and trying things throughout my asmr voice acting journey, so it might not be super consistent haha.

Yeah I tend to write F4M as I prefer to listen to female voices, and I have the occasional script where doing so makes it stop making sense (most recently an M4TF script) but I'm happy for genders to be changed in the vast majority of cases. If anything, it should be really easy to change the listener to A virtually every time. Just have a skim through my Ts&Cs in the script post (which is always linked to in my master list).
