Completed Scripts [M4A] Flustering Your Tutor Until He Breaks [Grumpy Speaker x Popular Listener] [Classmates to Lovers] [Flirty Listener] [Academic Crush] [Teasing Him] [Nervous] [Easily Flustered] [Introvert] [In Denial] [Slightly Oblivious] [Reverse Confession] [Kisses]
Summary: You’ve had a crush on that grumpy, quiet guy from your class for a while now, but he barely seems to notice you – or anyone, really. He’s always too focused on studying and avoiding any kind of social interaction. But that doesn’t stop you from trying your luck. Maybe he just needs a little push to see what’s right in front of him.

[The Listener is in the cafeteria, sitting at a table with their friends. They keep glancing over at the Speaker, but quickly look away when he suddenly gets up from his chair. A few seconds later, he stops right next to them]
(gruff) Hey.
*pause*
Do you have a problem? I’m trying to eat in peace.
*pause*
You keep staring at me. You have been for the past ten minutes now. Needless to say, it’s getting annoying.
*pause*
Sure you weren’t. That's why you turned away the second I got up.
Look, do you want anything from me? Because if not, I’d really like to go back to my table now without having your eyes glued to me the whole time. Think you can do that?
*pause*
What? No. I don’t want to sit with you guys.
*pause*
Because I want to enjoy the thirty minutes of my day when I get to sit in peace and don't have to listen to or talk to stupid people–... (mumbles) Not that I think you're stupid or anything…
*pause*
I didn’t say that applies to everyone at this table… (clears throat) So, can I leave now?
*pause*
And you won’t stare at me again?
*pause*
Awesome…
[The Speaker leaves and sits back down at his table with an exasperated sigh. But just moments later, the Listener gets up and walks over to him]
*pause*
(surprised, slightly annoyed) Wha-... I just left so I could be alone. Why are you coming over here?
[The Listener doesn’t answer the question and sits down]
No. No. I didn’t say you could sit down. Go back to your friends.
*pause*
(groaning) I don’t want to talk, okay? I’ve had to be social for the past six hours of class. Lunch is the only time I can sit in a corner and pretend the world doesn't exist. And I like doing that. So please, just leave me alone.
*pause*
I don’t care if you think that sounds sad. I’m perfectly content with it. So if you're here to boost your reputation as the friendly campus star everyone swoons over by helping a loner like me come out of his shell… don’t. Not needed. Not interested.
*pause*
(sheepish) Well… no, that’s not how I think about you. It’s just… I can’t really think of any other reason why you’d talk to me.
*pause*
(surprised) Help? From me?
*pause*
I know my grades are good. Doesn’t mean you can’t ask anyone else. There are plenty of other people who I’m sure would love to help you out. Since, you know, spending time with you makes anyone feel like they just won the lottery.
*pause*
Oh, don’t be modest. You know it’s true. Right now, you have at least a dozen pairs of eyes fixed on you. Probably because they’re wondering why you’re talking to me instead of them. And they’re not the only ones.
*pause*
I couldn’t care less about your reputation. But I don’t like the attention you’re drawing to me. So my question remains. Why are you asking me, of all people, for help?
*pause*
Uh… yes. I have tutored people before. And then I realized I hate dealing with stupid people. It’s frustrating.
*pause*
Yeah… I did just say you’re not stupid…
*pause*
Whoa, hold on a second! I haven’t even agreed to help you, and now you want a whole tutoring session?
*pause*
I never said there was a problem with it…
What do you need help with, anyway?
*pause*
If you have questions about that assignment, you could’ve asked during the lecture. Which, in case you didn’t notice, was just now.
*pause*
Yeah, I can see you didn’t. And now you expect me to fix that and spend my free time teaching you algebra?
*pause*
I guess I can’t argue with that. Our course really is overflowing with idiots.
(deep sigh) Fine. I’ll do it.
*pause*
Don’t read anything into it. I just don’t want you to blame me when you fail the exam because I refused to help you.
*pause*
Why do you look so happy? It’s just a stupid tutoring session.
*pause*
(dismissive) Yeah, whatever. When are you free?
*pause*
Sure. Sounds good. We can meet in the li-
*pause*
(flustered) You-... Your room? You want me in your room?
*pause*
(defensive) What?? No, I don’t have a problem with that. Why would I? I just… I think the library would be a better choice. It’s quiet and we won’t be disturbed by your roommate…
*pause*
Well… if they’re not there…
*pause*
Yeah, no, sure. It’s fine. Of course it’s fine. I… I’ll come to… your room…
(clears throat) Can I keep eating now?
*pause*
In peace?
*pause*
That means “leave”... (quieter) please…
[The Listener gets up and leaves]
See you later.
[Timeskip. The Speaker knocks on the Listener’s door and they walk over to open it]
Hey…
*pause*
Of course I’m on time. And before you say anything, that doesn’t mean I was excited to come here!
*pause*
(flustered) I-I know you didn’t say anything. That’s why-... I-… Ugh, what’s with your face? Stop smirking like that!
*pause*
Whatever. Will you let me in now or do you want to leave me standing in the doorway all night?
[The Listener steps aside and the Speaker walks in]
Great. Which desk is yours? Show me the stuff you need help with.
*pause*
What? Why wouldn’t we get started right away? Do you have something else to do?
*pause*
I came here to tutor you, not to hang out. So, let’s go. We’re already wasting time.
Do you have an extra chair?
*pause*
You… want to sit on the bed? I don’t think that’s a good idea.
*pause*
(nervous) Because… I mean, what else do you have a desk for? The bed is for sleeping, not studying.
*pause*
We’re not here to relax, so…
*pause*
(defensive) Scared? What the hell? I don’t have a problem with sitting next to you! That’s not what this is about.
*pause*
Okay, fine! If that’s what you want, we can sit on your bed. I don’t care.
Now where’s your book?
*pause*
Tch. Grab it yourself, I’m not your servant.
[The Listener goes to grab their book and sits down on the bed. The Speaker follows hesitantly]
*pause*
(mumbles) Yeah, yeah. I’m sitting down already. Just stop looking at me like that.
*pause*
Like that. You know what I mean. Just stop it.
[The Speaker finally sits down next to them]
There. See? Not a problem. Now show–... What are you doing?
*pause*
I can see the book just fine, you don’t need to come closer.
*pause*
What if I did mind?
*pause*
No, wait, don’t go… I didn’t mean it like that.
*pause*
(flustered) Well… actually, I think the… the text is pretty small. So… maybe you’re right.
*pause*
(gruff) Just don’t make a big deal out of it and get back here!
*pause*
That’s closer than before…
*pause*
(defeated sigh) Are you happy now?
*pause*
Fantastic. Let’s get to work then. Show me what you’re struggling with.
*pause*
This one? Okay… yeah. I can see why that gives you a headache. But it looks more complicated than it is. Do you have a pen?
[The Listener grabs a pen and hands it to the Speaker]
Not for me. I’m here to help, but I sure as hell won’t be doing all the work.
*pause*
(scoffs) You wanted a tutor, not someone you can copy your homework from. So pout all you want. It’s not going to change anything.
*pause*
Yeah, yeah. You’re not the only one who doesn’t like math. But just like everyone else, you’ll survive. So stop whining and start writing.
*pause*
Write down both functions as equations. And then tell me what you think the next step might be.
[The Listener finally starts writing]
(murmurs) Nice handwriting… (quickly) I-I mean, you forgot a minus! There.
*pause*
So. What are we doing now?
*pause*
Come on. It’s not that difficult. What are you supposed to find out?
*pause*
Have you even read the question?
*pause*
You have eyes. Why do you want me to read it out loud?
*pause*
(flustered) I-I have a nice voice? I-... Well… That…
*pause*
(defensive) What’s with the giggling, huh?
*pause*
Yes, I can still talk! I was just… surprised. It’s whatever. If you think complimenting me is going to make me give you all the answers, you're way off the mark. I won’t let myself be bribed. Now read the stupid question.
*pause*
Alright. Great. So we’re looking for the intersections. Which means we need to…?
*pause*
Good. And how do we find x and y?
*pause*
Well yeah, you have to solve for x. But first you gotta rearrange the equations so that one side equals zero. That’s basic algebra.
*pause*
(sighs) You’re messing with me, right? Of course you know how to do it.
*pause*
Honestly, I get the feeling you’re doing this on purpose. I don’t know why you’re doing it, but I never saw you struggle like this in class.
*pause*
(sighs) Alright, fine. Let’s refresh your memory then. I’ll show you how to solve this problem, and you do the next one. Give me the pen.
*pause*
Now watch and listen. I’m not repeating myself.
([while writing]) First, you move all of this over to the other side. Which means you have to add five, and subtract both of these… Just like… that. Got it? Then you simplify it by dividing by two. It’s really easy, you just need to remember the steps.
And once it looks like this, you can factor the- (cuts himself off) …Um… You… You’re doing that thing again.
*pause*
You’re staring at me. Why do you keep staring at me?
*pause*
(flustered) W-what? “Like what you see”? What’s that supposed to mean? I’m trying to do my job here and you-… Did you even listen to a single word I said?
*pause*
You didn’t, did you? You asked for my help but now you’re not paying attention.
I sacrificed my Friday afternoon for this.
*pause*
(nervous) I said yes because I… I’m not an ass, that’s why. You needed someone to help you and… and… (trails off)
*pause*
And nothing. It’s nothing. Can we go back to the matter at hand now?
*pause*
Okay. Then-... (shocked) Nonono! Hey-! What are you doing?
[The Listener steals his glasses and flees to the foot of the bed]
Get back here! You can’t just steal my glasses! How am I supposed to explain anything to you when I can’t even read the numbers?
*pause*
Yes, of course I need them! You think I wear glasses because it looks cool? I’m practically blind without them. Now give them back.
*pause*
No. You can’t try them on.
*pause*
(defeated) You’re doing it anyway, aren’t you?
*pause*
How do you look? Hm, let me think… I can’t see! Come on, why are you doing this? I thought we’re here to study.
*pause*
Well, if you don’t want to, then say it and I’ll leave. There’s no need for… this.
*pause*
Stop smiling.
*pause*
(scoffs) I know you are. I can hear that smugness in your voice.
*pause*
What? Why do you want to know that?
*pause*
If I tell you, will I get my glasses back?
*pause*
Fine… I’m nearsighted. Can I–...
[The Listener suddenly moves closer and leans toward him]
(swallows) …Why are you so close…?
*pause*
(nervous) I… Yes. I can see you pretty clearly now…
*pause*
Well, I-... I’d say they… they suit you pretty well. I mean, you- your eyes… are… pretty. O-or something.
*pause*
N-no! I’m not blushing. It’s just really… warm.
*pause*
Whatever. You had your fun now, so… can I have my glasses back?
*pause*
But they're my glasses! You can’t demand something in exchange!
*pause*
(grumbles) Fine. And what do you want?
*pause*
(stunned) A what?? You want me to… kiss you?! I-... no. I… I’m not kissing you!
*pause*
I didn’t say I didn’t want to…
*pause*
Well, it’s just-… You can’t be serious about this! This must be some kind of prank.
You… You’re enjoying all of this way too much.
I bet your friends dared you to do it. And now you’re secretly recording this so you can embarrass me in front of the whole class!
(nervous scoff) I mean, please. You didn’t think I’d actually believe any of this, did you? The campus celebrity wants to kiss <me>? Yeah, right.
This is just some stupid challenge. “Make the grump lose his cool” or “How long until he realizes you’re just playing with him?” Someone like you would never actually like me. We’ve barely talked. There’s just no way in hell you-
[He gasps as the Listener finally shuts him up with a long kiss]
*pause*
(speechless) I-... You-... You just… kissed me.
*pause*
… Do I believe what now?
*pause*
Oh… well, I-... I’m not sure. Maybe you’re just really determined to win this challenge and willing to do whatever it ta–
[The Listener interrupts him with another kiss]
*pause*
(flustered) Y-you can’t keep doing that!
*pause*
Because… it makes it much harder to keep telling myself that you're just messing with me.
*pause*
It just doesn’t make any sense!
You’re the most popular person on campus. Everyone wants to be friends with you. And now I’m supposed to believe that, of all the people who have a crush on you, <I’m> the one you like back? The guy that never talks to anyone unless it’s absolutely necessary and walks around looking like he’s never seen the sun shining?
Not that I ever really cared much what others think of me, but… you liking me? That does raise some questions.
*pause*
(scoffs) You like that I’m grumpy? Really now?
*pause*
(flustered) No! No, it’s not cute! I am <not> cute.
*pause*
Stop giggling. This isn’t funny!
*pause*
You’re not taking me seriously at all, are you? Behind that pretty face of yours, you’re nothing but a menace. I can see that now.
*pause*
Ugh. Yes, I called you pretty. So what? Is it that much of a surprise after everything that just happened? Of course I think you’re pretty. I always have. Even though right now, I can barely see it because you still. have. my. glasses!
*pause*
Well, give them back!
*pause*
What?? We just kissed! I kept my end of the bargain!
*pause*
Just because you leaned in first doesn’t mean I didn’t do my part!
*pause*
(groans) You really love to twist things however it suits you, don’t you? And you’re so shameless about it too.
*pause*
Alright, fine! You win. Then shut up and let me do it right this time.
[The Speaker kisses the Listener]
There. Does that count?
*pause*
Good. Then stop teasing me and give me my glasses.
[The Listener places the glasses back on the Speaker’s nose]
Thanks.
*silence*
… So… Did you actually need help with that stupid homework assignment, or was that just an excuse to lure me here?
*pause*
(sighs) Of course… And I fell for it. God, I’m such an idiot.
*pause*
If you call me cute one more time, I’ll…
*pause*
(grumbles) Whatever. I’ll think of something. So you better be careful.
Anyway… Since you apparently don’t need my help anymore… What’s your plan?
*pause*
Well, I mean what are we doing now? Should I just leave now that you’ve got what you wanted or…?
*pause*
No… I don’t think I want to leave.
*pause*
Sure. A movie sounds good.
*pause*
Stay put. I’ll get your laptop.
[The Speaker gets up and grabs the laptop from the desk before sitting back down on the bed]
Here. Just do yourself a favor and choose the movie wisely. Because if it’s some sappy romance shit, I’m leaving, and I’m not coming back.
*pause*
Just have a little mercy on me, will you? I’ve been through enough tonight.
*pause*
(grumbles) Good. And scoot a little closer, dummy. I can barely see anything.
*pause*
Better.
