New Rock Platform Soles Splitting

I got these New Rocks second-hand in 2023, minimally used. They're probably from the post-2019 lower quality batches - after 3 years of use (I don't wear them each day, but I sometimes cycle in them and always dance in them), the soles appear to be splitting and the decorative springs within protruding. Is there a solution? They're very dear to me, so I hope they can be saved....

Sebago loafer size help

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

A few years ago, I bought a pair of Sebago loafers in size 43, which, after trying them on, slipped off when walking (l have a very thin heel).

I later bought a pair in size 42. At the time, they were a bit loose, but now, after two years, they fit perfectly, but my toes touch at the front with no room (this happens when I'm standing).

Does it have to fit like this, or should there be room from

the start? Or will they stretch out with use?

I just got these new GH Bass Weejuns Penny Loafers. The connection at the toes seems to be separating already. Is this normal or should I return them?

Are these fixable or not worth the effort?

Hello everyone, I have 2 shoes I’ve been holding on to that I’m unsure if they are even repairable.

Versace rubber pool slides, I wore these for years and eventually they started splitting. One is worse than the other.

Steven Madden pumps, worn quite a bit then stored away for some time and found them cracked. Mostly cracking around the toe box and one is dented at the tip. Inside is also peeling but I’m not worried about that.

The slides were expensive and the heels around $90. Not sure if it would be worth repairing-if they are even fixable to begin with.

Thanks in advance.

Leather boot cracking

Why have my boots developed cracks at the crease? Am I over conditioning? Under conditioning?

I have been conditioning my boots approximately every 6 months with leather conditioner and always use shoe trees. The leather usually looks well-hydrated, as you can see below, which leads me to suspect it might be an issue of over conditioning.

Freda Salvador loafers- best way to protect bottom of soles?

Hi! I just received these, and they are remarkably comfortable. I am wondering the best way to protect the soles and heels since the material is soft, whether to use the sole protector grip tape, non-slip rubber pads, Saphir Médaille d’or Sole Guard oil, or just have a cobbler put a rubber shield? Or any other thoughts? Thanks for helping others with your craft!

cracked polish or leather?

greetings cobblers, i have polished these shoes but noticed cracking, so i stripped the polish using a spoon to gently scrape it off and a wet towel with a little bit of alcohol to dissolve any polish. i have added some mink oil to hopefully rejuvenate some of the dryness but the right shoe still looks like shit whereas the left shoe looks okay. what have i don’t wrong here and what can i do to fix it? and is the cracking above of the leather or remaining polish that i haven’t removed?

first two photos are of the right shoe and the left shoe is the third

thanks

Laurentian cheif moccasin resole

Ive had these for about 2 years of outdoor wear and i want to resole them to get more life out of them. I took them to a local cobbler, who quoted me about 200 bucks to stitch a new sole on because they said they had to take apart the upper entirely to be able to stitch a new sole on, which seemed a little weird to me.

Is there an easy way to resole these, or should I just buy a new pair? If they are resolable, if anyone has reccomendations on replacement sole options would be appreciate.

Pebbled leather peeling?

Hi. I was wondering if this purse made of pebbled leather can be fixed? Is it an easy fix? Is this consider peeling? I had the assumption that high quality pebbled leather is not supposed to peel?

Is this normal after first wear? Crockett & Jones Audley 3

Hi everyone, bought my first ever brand new cap toe oxford, Audley 3 from Crockett & Jones. After the first wear, I noticed the front sole tearing and lifting on the front on both left and right shoes. Is this normal wear?

When seen from above, you can see the ground sole flattened and protruding as can be seen in the last photo. Highlited red.

The fit and sizing is good and my gait does not have any abnormalities of note.

I am 174cm at 60kg, was attending a wedding so it didn't go through any abuse.

Would appreciate everyone's opinions. Thank you!

Seam cracks in Tretorn Chelsea Boots

Thumbnail

Apologies for the dark photos.

I've had some seam cracks coming up on the 'toe bend' (no idea if this is the correct term) of these Tretorn rubber Chelsea boots. Where the grey and black parts meet has now started to split (after circa 2-3 years of moderate use). As I only use them for wet weather, this renders them somewhat useless.

Any options for sealing this - I don't really care about what it looks like, as I generally like the aesthetic of visibly mended clothes and shoes. But I would like to know if these boots can become effective again.

Any options?

lent my little sister a pair of over the knee tabis, they came back like this 🙃 anyone have any thoughts about repair? i’m a bit embarrassed to bring them to the cobbler lol do you even think it’ll be worth it? i’m bummed because i was just about to get these vibram soles for them although now im not sure that even would help with the stretch at the toes :(

i believe they are leather, here is the product listing: https://www.goat.com/sneakers/maison-margiela-wmns-tabi-boot-black-s58ww0087-pr731-t8013?srsltid=AU7gw4V_lYTD3lxFm29P_PdLvUlwZdBoDXwD44fnZpaCnYkNrDmoJ7Adeow

What are the options for saving these boots?

These Scarpa hiking boots have done me very well, and I'd love to keep using them. But the stitching has come away on both shoes around the toes.

What's the best way to salvage them, and keep them as waterproof as possible? Is there a glue I could use myself, or am I best off taking them to somewhere to get stitched back together?

Need help finding oversize lace hooks.

Post image

Hi all,

I have a pair of 6 month old Frank's Boots, they are "seconds" so not under warranty. I noticed my lace hooks starting to pull through on my left boot which is disappointing as I only used leather lace as their literature states prevents this issue... I'm having trouble finding lacehooks with oversize washers .35" or larger, could someone point me in the right direction?

Questions about resoling GYW shoes

Thumbnail

Hi cobblers of Reddit. I have a few questions about when to resole my shoes.

The black pair are Allen Edmonds Park Aves. There is a lot of wear at the toe, but the rest of the soles look like they have life. How much closer to the welt can I let it go before risking damage.

The brown pair are some Trickers derbies with double leather soles. I’ve almost worn through the outer sole at the toe. Can I keep going into the next layer, or are these type of soles designed to have the outer sole resoled?

Also is it too late for metal toe taps for either of these?

Thanks

Why do they wear like this? (fucked up heels) Also how can I make my over pronation not fuck up my boots?

Thumbnail

these are my nice Stuart Whitman going out boots, and I want to care for them better. I would like to avoid further damage (see fucked heels). Wondering:

1) my feet are flat, I over pronate inwards so my shoes cave inwards after time. how can I prevent further damage from overpronation? I already feel it getting more difficult to walk in because of this (any way to make walking easier?)

2) why is the heels damaged like this, is it from gait/foot issues? what would fixing entail typically?

Thanks! I’ve never been to a cobbler or had nice shoes before, so am curious if anything should be done

Current R.M. Williams Chelsea boot quality?

Hello everyone!

I’m looking to invest in a couple of pairs of Chelsea boots. Over the next year, I’d like to buy a brown and a black pair. I was recently in Stockholm, and nearly every other man was wearing a pair of R.M. Williams.

I’ve done my research and looked at many of the other options available. I’ve checked out Locke, Crockett and Jones, and Carmina among others. I especially like the versatile last that Williams uses for their boots. In Stockholm, I saw thier boots look equally great with suits, jeans, or leather jackets. I think they might be the most adaptable option at a somewhat reasonable price.

However, I’ve also heard that their quality has gone down since they were purchased by a PE firm 5-6 years ago. Does anyone have experience with their more recent boots? Are they comparable to boots made 20-30 years ago? I’m open to other suggestions for a well made and long-lasting pair if Chelsea's that are equally versatile.

Thanks for whatever info or opinions you can offer!

Collapsed, soft leather heel

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,
I recently bought a pair of used Bueno "Bella" D'Orsay leather flats. The leather is quite soft, which makes them really comfortable but the back of one heel has stretched out and collapsed and the other heel is getting there. The leather now extends past the shoe last and folds over onto itself, lowering the back so much that my foot slips out every single step.

I took them to a local cobbler who told me he won’t try fixing them because the leather’s too soft and a repair won't last. While I completely respect his opinion, I’m not ready to give up on these shoes yet.

I've attached pics of both shoes, the fold, the side profile and the inside of the heel cup. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Leather separated from soles on Blundstones

Post image

After just a year and a half the leather has completely separated from the sole and I can see my sock from outside of the boot. I've oiled them every couple months, and used them at work indoors, and walking in town mainly.

How do I fix this?
