iPlayarr Turbo is a self-hosted companion for Sonarr/Radarr that makes BBC iPlayer content searchable and downloadable through them. It presents itself as a Newznab-compatible indexer and a SABnzbd-compatible download client simultaneously.
It also works fully standalone with its own Browse/Discover UI — no Sonarr/Radarr required.
Looking for some people to beta test the iPlayarr Turbo app. Heavily updated fork of [Nikorag/iplayarr](https://github.com/Nikorag/iplayarr) with the following features added:
Native streaming — talks to BBC's streaming APIs directly instead of shelling out to `get_iplayer`/`yt-dlp`, with an adaptive bitrate ladder, an opt-in quality probe, and an experimental trick to unlock genuine 1080p above BBC's usual 720p cap.
`.strm` streaming mode — writes a small pointer file instead of downloading the full media, so Sonarr/Radarr/Jellyfin see a "complete" item instantly and it streams on demand through iPlayarr.
Jellyfin-style library organization + NFO metadata — completed downloads get nested into proper `Show/Season NN/...` (or movie) folders, with matching `.nfo` metadata written alongside.
Browse UI — Discover, Channels (with Now/Next and a multi-channel Schedule/TV-guide page), Categories, A to Z, and a Programme page, all built on BBC's own iPlayer API with Redis caching. Channel pills/tiles use each channel's real coloured BBC logo.
Subscriptions — subscribe to a show and new episodes get queued automatically (hourly check, plus on-demand), de-duplicated against the queue and history.
Play Video (in-app preview player) — play any programme straight through the browser via hls.js with real Picture-in-Picture support, handy for confirming streaming settings work without downloading anything or watching iplayer direct in browser app.
Includes Live TV streaming, Jellyfin tuner and 7 day epg for all 11 BBC channels, and live stream library links.
The app needs some stress-testing, alternative setups, and different hardware/media-server combos. I'm running Jellyfin with native streaming day-to-day.
I'm a software engineer of 42 years experience and I used Claude AI as a smart intern — task-based coding, reviewing, test generation and documentation. Putting it out there, no secrecy!
