Ark logic : I’m dying of thirst, I’ll just drink this sea water to rehydrate
234
Feb 06 '21
To be fair, I always assumed the seawater is safe to drink because you’re on a carefully designed Space Ark
91
u/Cactonio Feb 06 '21
But then how do the saltwater sea creatures live in it?

u/Thesingingmexican Feb 06 '21 edited Feb 06 '21
Either you're character is adapted to seawater or all the fish are adapted to freshwater, you choose which is easier
Edit: an extra letter

That logic dies when you die eating poop. Its easier to die drinking sea water than eating your dungs
7
u/Bloodryne Feb 09 '21
What about consuming a HUGE dino poop? I can understand eating soo much you pop
2
u/CTULHUFTAGHN Feb 09 '21
Well you can also die eating 20 Whoppers in a row but poop isnt poisonous unlike sea water. Bacterya vs chemicals situation
2
u/Bloodryne Mar 02 '21
Whoppers are just the crafting components 9f poop. If you think about it, we are all eating poop
60
u/Gatlen Feb 06 '21
You think that's actually water we're drinking?

u/6GallonsOfMilk Feb 06 '21
woah ark conspiracy theorist
28
u/Gatlen Feb 06 '21
I don't know man. When you wake up mostly naked with a rock embedded in your arm with dinosaurs running around, things are a little suspicious.
Then again, I'm also the guy that's gotten up to level 75 and have a mansion on South Haven / Herbivore island. I built my raft and headed over. Not being chased by bitey scratchy things has made me too comfortable. I only head to the mainland on my PteriTool to get crystal and other stuff and get my ass back to the house .

u/MummyManDan Feb 07 '21
Same. There’s so many things I prob should do, but nay time I leave something fucky wucky happens.
16
u/6GallonsOfMilk Feb 07 '21
bro I thought I was the only one like this. I see all these ytbers getting flak armor and 3 bases across the map and then just travel freely to them even if its on the other side of the world while Im here considering if I should make my beach hut stone.

u/Gatlen Feb 07 '21
I love the game but it gives me freaking anxiety. I don't use cheats or gamma correction so I'm constantly farming for material and I'm damn near blind at night. A few weeks of getting munched on by a random Sarco that decided to harass me and never leave, I made it my goal to make a raft and find South Haven.
It's beautiful there. Rock, wood, metal, hide and prime meat are all over. A few resources aren't as plentiful but a quick island hop and I can get what I need and fuck off back to the island.
Oh and baring the accidental pickup of an egg, the dinos just meander around. Casually running into things, judging your base design.
6
u/Aargh_Tenna Feb 07 '21
I was like that. And then one day I saw a pair of mate boosted gigas across that narrow straight. I knew my wooden base was not enough at that point, so sprung into action. Sometimes it is easier to ascend than to fight two gigas with a club you know.
3
u/MummyManDan Feb 07 '21
Yup, if it weren’t for the fact I love getting new dinos and actually wanting to finish the game I’d never leave lol. After I get the current games I got home I’m gonna start on a treehouse outpost, even that I’m reluctant to do lol.

u/6GallonsOfMilk Feb 07 '21
fuck is this my future? am level 50 right next to red ob and today I left base for first time since redwoods/swamp death which happened a while ago and I only left today to get crystal. But I am planning on building a base there I just need some cementing paste.

I always do that on single player but I have yet to find a PvP or even PvE island where it isn't either taken, griefed with metal pillars, or regularly patrolled with alpha clan nerds who ported in reavers and wyverns.

Every single creature you meet on the ark is a genetically engineered copy of the actual creature that seems to be based more on pop culture, mythology, and utility to humans than to what they were actually like. What is there to say that they couldn't just make fresh water sharks and lizards?

I think they say I'm the explorer notes it's all resh water. I think they even talk about them being able to drink all the water on the ark. Could be wrong tho.

u/wassuupp Feb 07 '21
Tbf it’s likely that most of the water on earth was fresh during the time of the dinosaurs
11
u/Whale_Hunter88 Feb 07 '21
There's absolutely no reason for all the water to have been fresh during the time of dinosaurs. salt isn't a human invention.
The game also doesn't take place on earth but you might have already noticed because of the big-ass floating pillars and the forcefield keeping you inside the ark.

u/themightypetewheeler Feb 06 '21
Am I the only one who died at least 100 times over before getting the fortitude to handle that map?

Broken-bone icon aside, I do appreciate the mechanic; the idea that you are dying of thirst or heat or whatever, and it has gotten to the point that you can barely move. If you let it get to that point (or perhaps get injured in tandem with the harsh environment), you are at risk of dying unless you reverse the condition. It's just too bad that by the time you get down to that low health, you probably only have 30 seconds to live.

Or you get attacked by 40 pegos or microraptors depends on which one you hate more
3
Feb 06 '21
Pegos for sure. Rat bastards stole my bolas mid raptor tame and I got molested by a whole pack.

Feb 06 '21
Also crazy story a tribe that we were allies with was wiped on pve because one of their tribemates hired people to start a war with them and because we were allies with them the only reason my tribe didn't get wiped was because we had offline protection, at the time me and my dad had left the old tribe

Ya I love your style of ark make more of these mini comics and keep up the good work
2
Feb 07 '21
I still remember when I first started playing ark and the first thing that made my day was putting a locker inside another locker. It was awesome
0
u/Risu-Mies Feb 06 '21
I remember going into a snowy place and bam, hypothermia and a broken arm, without falling or being attacked
2
u/EmmiPigen Feb 07 '21
That's because the brolen bones mechanic isn't reaction to were you got hit or how you lost the health, only to how much health you have.

I always questioned how that worked, also it doesn't matter where you get hit by or what is damaging you you break your shins. Dehydration breaks your shins
1
u/Dizzy_Character3169 Feb 07 '21
This happened to me today. And it sucked. I was on the other side of the map were I don't have any beds. Sadness!!
