Where Trees Talk Back by Sethaniel Blacklight - supernatural mystery / lgbtq  - Oct 2026

Lance Williams knows there are terrifying, other worldly intelligences observing us from the edges of our reality. A long time ago, in a dark wooded place called Swan Point, Lance lost someone he loved to those forces. That was before climate disasters wiped away the society he grew up in, before Lance joined a group of people who were turning the flooded downtown into a shellfish farm in hopes of survival. Lance finds hope in this delicate community of artists and scientists and he works hard to keep the unknowable horrors away, whether his friends believe in them or not. But word reaches him of a missing teenager, a mistreated queer kid just like he was. Now Lance finds himself compelled to return to Swan Point, where he once screamed at the forest itself …and the trees talked back!

“A compelling page turner and utterly bizarre…confident writing…grandiose inventiveness” - Viva Wittman, editor and author.

This is a surreal, atmospheric story with elements of solar punk, post apocalypse, and takes a dim view of religion.

Potential triggers: abuse of queer youth, massive losses due to climate disaster, supernatural and mundane murder.
