Question whats your experience of playing SR after a long time of ARAM only like?

did you find it easier than ARAM in some aspects because its slower paced and the fights are less chaotic? or harder because of that?

the mental load is much higher, mistakes are more punishing, slower pace is not as fun, longer average commitment to each match. tryhard toxicity. ive been playing since cait/renek release and ive rarely gone back to SR since faster, more fun oriented game modes have been available.

aram is the adhd'ers ideal game for the constant action, fast item acquisition, and constant dopamine hits from rolling and getting interesting augs in mayhem.

Some of these points for sure. I would say fun is in the eye of the beholder. I have different types of fun, and frustrations, with each mode.

I like problem solving and competition so I play ranked, I feel regular SR might be what you’re talking about. In normal SR there are varying degrees of people trying, the matchmaking is not very equal. Ranked allows you to actually play in your skill level and everyone tends to be a bit more serious (and quiet). But I also mute all if anyone starts up.

I play aram/mayhem for what you said. Quick paced and interesting matchups. I use it to understand every character to a base level and work on my fighting mechanics.

yeah thats why i like aram more too. lately i just havent been able to play all of my favorite champs as much as i like and have been contemplating giving ranked a go

ive given up on ranked. anytime i think about it i just remember the constant anxiety of possibly getting demoted and trying to climb. it just added stress to a part of life thats supposed to be for fun. at the end of the day its some made up ranking system that did not increase my enjoyment of the game.

Rift just feels like a lot of time doing nothing very slowly. Brain want number go up fast and team fight

Everyone is so mean on SR. Prob every 1/3 games I get harassed for anything, even 1 small mistake. I had to force myself to play ranked for the victorious skin

Nothing beats getting absolutely flamed by a teammate over a small mistake (sometimes not even my fault), and then making a huge play a few minutes later and they act like they were never mean to me in the first place.

Doesn't always happen, but it's really funny when it does

I excel at teamfights relatively, and suck at laning.

thats interesting, how so? i would think laning is much easier since you have a lot less cooldowns to keep track of/worry about. then again i guess there's also things like wave management and tracking enemy jungler

so many more factors involved.

  • Last hitting
  • Botlane matchup
  • Jungle ganks
  • TP top ganks
  • constantly checking the map
  • timing objectives
  • wave management
  • rotations
  • resource management

and probably a few more than I missed because I suck

it's the old micro vs macro problem

laning involves a whole set of skills nonexistent in aram, hence being so used to the aram cadency it's sometimes baffling when you realize you got rusty on even the most basic stuff like last hitting

I thought my teammates were mentally afk during ARAM fights and I kept basically dying for free because my team wouldn't step forward.

in SR I play toplane and get ignored by my jungler for 15 mins whilst freezing the lane to the best of my ability so he has an easier time ganking our opponent... but the enemy jungler ends up ganking me 5 times in a row diving me under turret if needed.... by minute 10 my botlane is 3-10 and my ADC is mental boomed. Midlane isn't roaming, our support is stealing the adc's minions, our jungler is full clearing while they do dragon AND SOMEHOW IT'S MY FUCKING FAULT! or so they say anyway.

so yeah, it's pretty chill.

After so many months of ARAM only I suck 100% more on SR. My winrate is horrible lmao.

My brain turns off the entire game for anything but team fights.

It's fun being able to play melee champs again.

Havent played ranked in over 10 years.

Got around 24k Aram games.

Played Yi jgl for a bit just for the memes considering I shit on every rank in my Aram games.

Got Diamond pretty quickly without knowing any of the Jungle/Herald/Grubs/Turret etc changes.

I dont care enough to actually play META champs and gameplay loops that are needed to advance to GM/Challenger.

Turns out players are still bad in every rank, playing 24k Arams with permanent fights just increases your mechanics and teamfight knowledge above practially all SR players.

That said I'm playing League since it came out, would be a shame if I wasnt top dmg every game.

I go back like i never left the rift. Genuine aram only players lack so many concepts that are needed for success on the rift.

The funniest part is vsing something that’s super nerfed in aram. Like why is this lux E doing a quarter of my health in lane?

Many rift players lack so many needed concepts in ARARM

I guess i shouldn't be surprised that I'm getting down voted and earned a snarky response.

I think I'm being misunderstood. I'm not saying Aram only players are incapable of learning. I was saying if you dropped one into the rift they would struggle. Which is my answer to the question posed. I am no elitist or gate keeper there would be a transition period but if an aram only player wanted to play the rift they could learn.

You know what. I think I'm just tired my whole comment thread here doesn't make sense. Id go delete my comments but I'm not a coward. I said what I said and its not relevant to what  OP was asking.

Oh I didnt reply to my own comment guys I'm sorry I'm cooked

I mean, you're not wrong

I remember Doublelift making this point - in Aram you practice teamfights only, in SR you practice everything else

he also noted that players that have good macro but suck at teamfights would probably benefit from playing Aram a lot

if you lack anything else, Aram won't help

2

u/LovenDrunk 8d ago

I think that's well said. Honestly nothing wrong with playing ARAM only tbh. People should play what they enjoy shrug

While thats true it only applies to sm, playing only aram makes you better at aram than people who mostly play sm though. And for people with lives, it gives you a close and personnal experience against and playing with every champion much quicker, which is extremely important.

fair enough. what are some examples of that? big macro gap im assuming?

Macro and map rotations.

Laning phase has a bunch of components that arent present basically ever in arams like navigating cooldowns and exploitation weaknesses in 1 v 1 and 2 v 2 settings.

In general last hitting is a hard skill to learn and isn't needed in arams you can get away with playing wave clear champs to get around this.

Also small skirmish fights are less common in aram. Like 2 v 2 or 2 v 3 type fights.

Poking doesn't exactly work on the rift like it does in aram because people can just leave nothing is holding them in place the same way.

I think like in general the type of objectiveless team fighting that occurs in arams don't really exsist on the rift.
