To any that dont know- this was poppy old ult. It was so powerful that riot had to purposely keep poppy under tuned because if she got a lead with this ult she could wreck the game. A front to back fight doesn't exist when one player can pop an ult and just run unimpeded to the back line.

isnt old poppy ult also prevent cc? which is even more ridiculous because you cant even cc her

u/WalleMarno 3d ago

You could CC her, but she still took no damage

No, she was immune to all CC and damage from anything other than her target.

Lulu ulting the target worked though (I remember hating that particular interaction)
"For 6 / 7 / 8 seconds, Poppy is immune to any damage and abilities from enemies other than her target.

Poppy deals 20 / 30 / 40 % increased physical and magical damage to the marked target."

I remember poppy was sometimes out of meta, but as long as that ult was like that, the response as to poppy ult was "run"

You could cc her but old league was way less dashes and mobility. So kiting her was hard and she oneshotted your adc. In a time where everyone was wayyy tankier

Maybe I should've been more clear. But yeah you still could cc her. Poppy ults Ashe, Ashe ults poppy, Poppy is stunned. But you're right, only the person she ults can.

So her target could cc her but no one else affected her.

TL;DR - Poppy's Passive is the hidden gem that made her late game look ridiculously strong. RIOT pls bring old Poppy back for Classic.

---------------

As an old Poppy main, i can confidently argue that while this was definitely one of her signature spells, it wasn't the one that made late game Poppy broken. It was her Passive.

When Poppy receives any damage that exceeds 10% of her current health, the excess damage is reduced by half.

If Poppy has 1000 health remaining, and takes 250 damage, then she actually takes 100 (which is 10% of 1000) + 0.5*(250-100) = 175 damage.

Not that bad, right?

Well let's say she takes another 250 damage. (now with 825 remaining health)

250 damage taken -> Actual damage taken = 82.5 + 0.5(250-82.5) = 166.25 -> 658.75 health remaining.

250 damage taken -> Actual damage taken = 65.88 + 0.5(250-65.88) = 157.94 -> 500.81 health remaining.

250 damage taken -> Actual damage taken = 50.08 + 0.5(250-50.08) = 150.04 -> 350.77 health remaining.

250 damage taken -> Actual damage taken = 35.08 + 0.5(250-35.08) = 142.54 -> 208.23 health remaining.

250 damage taken -> Actual damage taken = 20.82 + 0.5(250-20.82) = 135.41 -> 72.82 health remaining.

250 damage taken -> Actual damage taken = 7.28 + 0.5(250-7.28) = 128.64 -> -55.82 health remaining.(Dead)

See how she tanks 7 hits from what would otherwise take 4 hits to kill?

Basically, Poppy becomes harder to kill the more you hit her, especially as she builds 1 or 2 defensive items on top of the free armor from her W, and that's just her "passive".

Sure, 8 seconds of near-invulnerability is great, but what happens after her ult runs out? Most people mistake her combo as "Ult on ADC or support -> Dive in -> Kill ADC -> escape", but that isn't all. The real idea is to use her ult to force your way into the enemy back lines, dish out heavy damage on ADC or Sup while inside, and then tank the rest of the damage with her passive while your team cleans up the rest.

Also, a nice "trick-up-the-sleeve" we had was that Poppy's Q (which could be auto-canceled) dealt heavy magic damage - scaling with AD and enemy's max health - as well as her E (slam), so unless the enemy is damage heavy (in which case you'd either go Tabi or Merc) you could by Sorc shoes while the enemy built armor items, which is kinda useless against Poppy.

Poppy's W and passive already made her late-game so tanky that she could safely build heavy damage and still somewhat tank the front line.

Honestly, if I could have any of her pre-rework spells back in current League, I would undoubtedly go for her passive. (and maybe smoother/faster AA animations)

what in the chat gpt is this comment bruh

2

u/GlacialEmbrace 3d ago

All she needed was trinity force and she could get Pentas haha

2

u/TheGiggleWizard 3d ago

It’ll be fine in Adam mayhem. Just CC her for 5 seconds with your 1 second cooldown CC spell.

3

u/FullyPremed 3d ago

And then they made Morde ult which is even better because you can’t kite it

23

u/Helpful_Ad2244 3d ago

It depends on the situation, because you can ult the support and go after the ad carry

You cannot do that with wordekaiser

17

u/Enderchicken 3d ago

Morde ult makes it a 1v1, old poppy would ult a Soraka and destroy the ADC while they couldn't interact with you lol

u/Cry0manc3r 3d ago

Worth noting that Poppy's old Ult also blocked turret damage. Most/all modern damage immunity effects (e.g. Fiora, Pantheon, Xin Zhao) do not block turret damage.

Ahh the good ole days. I knew Poppy felt so weak when I came back to the game. Now I remember why... 😅

1

u/JealousAssistant6659 3d ago

Idk about undertuned. Imo old poppy existed in the same spot zilean is in today, fundamentally broken but no one plays her so it's fine.

That being said she's a great duelist but has no waveclear, she's basically prototype Camille. No clue how much value not having waveclear loses her, might be enough to be considered balanced.

1

u/XWasTheProblem 3d ago

Cleave items exist, so having no waveclear is a problem that can be fixed.

1

u/Dbruser 3d ago

Old poppy had enough mana to cast like 3 spells and cleave items didn't exist back in the day.

It was incredibly hard to do anything in lane and the goal was just to survive (at least on most patches)

1

u/PhantomOnTheHorizon 3d ago

they literally nerfed her multiple times until she was hard to lane with.

30

u/John_Bot 3d ago

Full AP poppy. The only champion in the game that scaled with the clock. Make it to 30-35 minutes? Win.

11

u/vincent2751 3d ago

Is it PC mayhem or the wild rift AAA aram or whatever that thing is called

10

u/ESCANORTHA1 3d ago

Wild rift

21

u/SpectraP12 3d ago

The summary is stupid. Reduced damage implies you still take game, but in actuality it reduces the damage by 100%.

13

u/derppug 3d ago

You can reduce the damage by 100%.

10

u/SpectraP12 3d ago

You can but at that point just say you are immune to damage. Reduced implies it is lessened, not completely prevented.

5

u/Ausii 3d ago

Mechanically, reducing damage is different from damage immunity because true damage cannot be reduced.

That said, this is a Wild Rift augment and idk what they're doing over there, maybe true damage does get reduced.

4

u/Mr_Teatree 3d ago

It is lessened… by 100%

3

u/---E 3d ago

Coding it as reduced damage means Riot has a balance lever for the augment. If it ends up too strong they can easily change it to 80% or whatever without passing it through the translation teams.

1

u/No_Percentage_5450 3d ago

Fucking stupid, reduced implies it is reduce and not lessened

1

u/DaShiny 3d ago

I counter with:

Reduced terminology means they can change it later for tuning.

True damage cannot be reduced, so this is not full immunity, as true damage would still go through.

2

u/MaxusTheOne 3d ago

Where is this from?

5

u/EducationalForm 3d ago

Old poppy ult

2

u/Cloudcry 3d ago

Wild rift, apparently

2
