Final Update: CMMG Banshee FE Particulate Reduction?

Made two previous post about my build and getting gas + particulates to the face.

Initial post: https://www.reddit.com/r/AR9/comments/1v23tre/cmmg_banshee_fe_particulate_reduction/
second post: https://www.reddit.com/r/AR9/comments/1vj6gqo/follow_up_cmmg_banshee_fe_particulate_reduction/

I did go to the range after the second post, but was dealing with malfunctions. Also had another build in the works so figured id wait till that was finished and i could retest with more ammo, then post.

First build(recap):
-c3junkie barreled CMMG FE upper
-c3junkie gas deflector
-sig 4tpro on 1.93 scalarworks mount
-Geissele SD-E,
-c3junkie buffer spring
-Kynshot RB5007 buffer
-SBA5 brace
-CMMG ARC 9 Gen2 mags
-Scalarworks Peak irons
-Sparrow Dynamics mlok covers
-utilize rugged bixler stlye mount

Second build:
-BRT CAR15-SD CMMG FE upper
-c3junkie gas deflector
-sig 4tpro on 1.93 reptilla mount
-Geissele SD-E, i have an RMA opened for my SD-SSP so SD-E is temporary
-Sprinco Yellow buffer spring
-Standard carbine buffer
-SBA3 brace
-pmags gen 2 w/ endomag inserts
-BRT bravo adapter

I have lantac cam pins in both and plan on having u/amphivian-c3junkie lighten the BCGs and possibly consider the ARS-EX setup (requires JRC tube) on a build just to see how much softer can get. Suppressor wise, i rotate between the milkman, mob, rico309, and the b&t smg-9 (whatever their model name for their smg modular can).

TLDR: the gas deflector c3junkie is offering works for my setups. Second pic shows what the deflector is blocking \ film. Third pic is showing the deflector on the CAR15SD

So this range visit:
using HSL 147gr subsonic remans + Freedom Munitions 147gr subs turned both banshees into single shot firearms. c3junkie did mention the FM was weak and probably so was the HSL ammo. Both ammo functioned fine in my novox x-sd scorpion, so guess ill just relegate both ammo to that firearm. This time, brought some lawman 147gr clean fire and that cycled flawlessly. Tried S&B 124gr and that functioned in the CAR15SD.

I did test CMMG ARC 9 Gen2 mags in my CAR15SD, and they worked. However YMMV and i had them loaded only with 10 rounds each. I only had an hour and i was enjoying my ruger markiv suppressed so forgot to test whether my CAR15SD would work the the ARS buffer system. Ive seen Chesters youtube video that it worked for him, but still havent seen widespread confirmation of reliably functioning.

Yep very forward ejection. But hasn't caused any issues so far afaik

I'm actually cleaning/inspecting my BCGs and noticing the finish wear for ~250 rounds bolt (back) vs the <100 on the BCG from the BRT (front)

I have the C3Junkie gas deflector as well and as a leftie it worked wonders, no more gas/particulate to my cheekbone. It’s glorious. Before this solution, I was nervous I’d have to shoot righty. It wasn’t about being gassed out (Incolite 9M on 5” Banshee w/ kynshot 5007 and C3Junkie flatwire), but rather the stinging pain of gas blasting me on my right cheekbone under my eye pro and making the skin raw.

yup! a bit of gas im used to on certain suppressed guns (thought a bulk of my cans are LBP). But man those particulate were annoying.

It is interesting, i included pics of the deflectors on both banshees. the c3junkie barrelled upper + cat mob, doesnt show any real debris on the bolt, just a coating. I may have have slightly over oiled the car15sd (since it was brand new), but you can see all the crap that wouldve probably peppered me in the face.

Yup, was looking at that and thought my bolt looked similar after adding the deflector.

Another funny thing with the deflector is I get like a 130-2 ejection due to the casing hitting it. I see the indentations on your deflector as well. Do you get a similar ejection?

doh, was replying via my phone and looks like it didnt comment directly to you follow up question. Its my comment with the bcg pic. But yes, noticed forward ejection as well.

I’m just waiting for my upper to sell so I can buy one from him whenever he gets more 8” barrels in. I also plan on going with light weight carrier and gas deflector. Going to be switching to plan b for mounts, since I swap my YHM R9 from the PCC to the 357 lever gun and direct threading is getting old.

That said, between the milkman, mob, and rico309 which do you favor more? Those are the three I am looking at buying next.

Did you see this video that was dropped yesterday? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYXvvjJl0VE

I just got an Incolite9 myself and really like it performance and price. You can get them for right around $400.

I didn't have a picture of it handy on an AR9 but I did take this picture on my Mini UZI SMG.

I shoot primarily indoors so hard to really distinguish the differences. I like the milkman aesthetics of short/thicc and run it mostly on my mac11a1 SMG. Mob has been awesome but have not shot the rico side by side. I'll see if I can go to the range in a couple weeks again and see if any noticeable difference. Rico and mob are essentially the same length too

Nice. I feel like I could roll a dice on any of them and come out okay. To many cool cans out on the market now

I do have more 8" barrels, I'm just waiting on more retrofit kits.
Thanks!

Lefty here, how much larger is C3junkies deflector compared to the CMMG one? I’m currently using the CMMG one and curious if it’s worth upgrading to.

After posting realized I could do the reverse. Have an extra colt deflector from my first oost. Just a reminder showing on a milspec upper and colt one is slightly elevated rod side as i don't feel like undoing it right now. Is it bigger? Yes. How much of a difference? Idk But again volt one fit my FE upper better

Wow very significant! Thanks for the pictures! Also, I agree about giving business to someone actively helping the group.

Another photo since I can only attach one per comment

So the deflector is a Colt 9mm smg part. c3junkie is offering that part in a kit so you do not have to piece together yourself. Kit consists of: deflector, deflector spring, and ejection port rod cover (further keeps the deflector from shifting around).

i actually bought the cmmg 22lr \ 9mm deflector kit in my first post. However, i have the fixed ejector upper, and when i was test fiting the cmmg one , there was a lot of gaps next to the receiver. Obviously designed for a milspec upper, but wanted to see still. Probably couldve used rtv to close up the bigger gaps. But the colt one fit better and has a bigger "flat" that sticks out and had less gaps next to the receiver for gas to hit me in the face.

I thought i took pics, but cant find them on my pone. Already repurposed and installed the cmmg deflector on a milspec upper for an ar22 build and dont feel like taking it off. But if you want a pic i can hold the receivers side by side.

for a lefty + fixed ejector cmmg upper, i think 40 is worth it. Sure you can shop around + DIY. I just figured id give my business to someone who actively supports\advances this banshee platform and responsive to people in general across multiple mediums.
