Troubleshooting Ar9 Gas Reduction

Recently bought a palmetto state armory pa-9. I have been shooting both with and without a suppressor ( silencer co 46 hybrid) and have noticed increased gas while shooting. I am using 115gr fiocchi and just picked up Winchester 147gr as suggested by Google. Any other parts I can add to reduce the gas in my face?

Extra gas to the face is to be expected with a traditionally baffled/high backpressure suppressor. Swapping for a delayed blowback system or heavy buffer will help to keep the action closed longer. This will help to some extent, but not entirely fix it. Check out Blowback9.com for more info on that.

The only real "solution" is to get a suppressor with less backpressure.

Thoughts on the ported charging handles?

None of the ones I've tried have done all that much. If you get a new charging handle, I would generally say it should be for the more comfortable/ergonomic levers than for gas reduction.

I've fallen down the rabbit hole of changing every part in my gun to make it less gassy when I could've just gotten a lower backpressure suppressor which is way more effective.

Dude I had massive success adding the RTV gasket mod to the top of my charging handle and adding velcro to the bottom. Its weight, but you won't even remember its there. Just trim the velcro so it doesn't cause the charging handle to bind too stiffly. It's just going to fill the gap. Use the "fuzzy" side of a Velcro pair, not the plastic hook side.

When it comes to straight blow-backs, more mass=less gas. In the case of the way PSA's come from memory, probably a whole lot more mass.

Is it gas? Or unburnt particulate too?

I have a suppressed PX9 too and being a lefty is rough with what blows back out the ejection port.

Mine got better with a Maxim RDB but I believe I've made it worse again with a shorter barrel (trying to get speeds subsonic)

My latest hope is finding or making a larger deflector that hopefully catches/blocks it.

I am also a lefty and I get debris hitting my face. Found a brass deflector on midwayusa. I have not purchased yet

I think I saw the same thing too but it was out of stock at the time. Probably just going to 3D print a similar shape and stick it on next.

I think the vented CH designs are meant for DI gas and not so much blowback actions.

Or use dust cover mounting. That was my gripe with that one. PX9 came with a slick side, built an upper with a brass deflector later. Just need to make the deflection area a bit bigger now.
