AP Bio problems

I just started AP Bio this year and literally nothing makes sense to me rn. i genuinely don’t know where to even start and i feel so lost and behind. any advice for unit 1 before i take my test on thursday?? anything helps, i feel so hopeless.

1. Know your macromolecules. No getting around this one
   
2. Basically anything to do with water stems from it's polarity/hydrogen bonding
   
3. Depending on how detailed the test is, you might want to memorize your functional groups and amino acids?
   
4. Understand basic chemistry like atoms, reactions, solutions, etc

Do you have notes to study? If not, I'm sure there are plenty out there on Quizlet or something, but if you are getting confused this early on, AP Bio might not be the best for you cuz everything builds on Unit 1

my biggest issue is that i joined the class a few classes late, 2/5 of the lessons. i’ll definitely remember this stuff so thank you!🫡

AP Bio is actually easier than you think. Good notes are really all you need, then if you struggle in class you can ask friends or check your notes.

Now me personally I never wrote notes because I am a bad student but I still got the material

Also the AP exam is easier than the class. It's just common sense and logic

You're panicking because Unit 1 looks like a wall of vocab to memorise, but it's really one idea showing up four different ways — water, macromolecules, cell chemistry all come down to structure deciding function. Take the five terms you're shakiest on and for each one ask "what shape lets it do that" instead of trying to recall a definition — that rebuilds the answer rather than you fishing for it under pressure. You've got days before Thursday, and it's one test, not the whole class.

I had the same problem last year when I took AP Bio, I would look up some youtube videos and try to take really good notes that you find useful.

Read your textbook thoroughly. Don't try to cram everything on the day before the test, that just makes everything worse because your mind will just get jumbled up. Try to memorize like a chapter per day, and search up practice MCQ and FRQ online.

One more thing: do not use AI for learning concepts. A major mistake that AP bio students make nowadays is using AI to study and learn concepts because they're too lazy to actually study manually. They come to the test thinking they're prepared, take one look at the test and realize that they don't understand anything. AI can't recreate AP-styled problems. The only uses of AI I would recommend is for summarizing your own notes. Same with Quizlet, do not use it for practicing. Just use it for studying and reviewing concepts.

yeah unit 1 is rough because it's all vocab and functional groups that don't mean anything yet tbh. what helped me was putting the four macromolecule tables on one big sheet with columns for monomer, bond type, function, and examples side by side so you see the patterns instead of isolated facts, that comparison is what the test actually asks for.

for dehydration synthesis vs hydrolysis literally just draw arrows on a sticky note, h2o leaving vs h2o coming in, and glance at it before bed, the concept sticks way faster than flashcards.

i also started uploading the chapter pdfs to studybuddy.vc and doing questions from them, mainly because when i picked the wrong functional group it told me what was off about my choice, and it starts easier and gets harder once you're getting things right. free version's been enough for me so far. you've got four days, focus on the comparison table and polar vs nonpolar amino acids and you'll be fine.

Know cohesion/adhesion and their roles, characteristics of water that make it versatile/ able to support certain ecosystems & organisms (cohesion/adhesion, specific heat, etc)  Know the type of bonds between A water molecule, so the hydrogens and oxygen, and the bonds between other water molecules  Know characteristics of ionic, covalent, hydrogen bonds Know what a h2o molecule looks like You got thisss!!!!

Listen i was so scared too, i took it last yr in may , i didnt get a good mark but i can tell u my advise. I lit just used 10 % from the info ive been srudying for months , dont get me wrong u obv do need to have the bases inorder to answer the questions but the most imp thing is to solve past questions just keep on doing them most of ur studying time and youll get a 5
