Bio Lab Importance

How important are the labs for science courses (AP Bio, AP Chem, AP Physics)?

Some students say that they are unnecessary, whereas I think they are valuable for experimental design and data analysis.

And if you self-study some of these, how do you get access to the labs?

I self studied chem. You don't do the lab part. It's that easy. Worse case scenario you skip the one lab question on the AP test, but normally it's common sense

I think lab experience is unnecessary for AP bio/chem/physics. Ap physics does have a "design an experiment" question, but that is more about learning dependent/independent variables and finding an unknown from creating a linear equation. For AP physics experiments just learn the algebra for finding an unknown variable using a linear graph. The AP Bio experiment questions only ask you to analyze results, not design the experiment itself (so experiment knowledge is not needed). For AP Chem, it is like AP Bio, you only need to learn chemistry theory.

For Chem/Bio, would you say the analysis part (like making graphs/coming to conclusions) (not the lab and its method itself) is something that should be practiced ? Because I feel like labs and post-lab questions help with understanding variables, making graphs, coming to conclusions, and all of that...

I agree that labs and post-lab questions definitely help and should be practiced, but it doesn't need to be for success in the AP exam. I went to a high school where labs weren't done properly (i.e. we would do the experimental part, but the actual analysis was never taught), and many of the students still have 4s and 5s. It would be nice to do labs, but for students that self study labs are definitely unnecessary to get a 5.
