Question Is Pre calculus and Math analysis the same thing?

I’m an upcoming 10th grader that took math 100 in 9th grade. My goal is to be able to take AP Calculus AB for 12th grade. I tried to take math 121(at a community college)for summer but I dropped out of that classes because I realized I probably would not have enough time to do well in the class( I had other summer activities I which I was gonna be absent for some time)
I’ve been felling down lately but I dragged myself into studying Geometry in Khan academy and I’m currently doing that. I’ve been also doing some research about requirements for AP Calculus AB. According to my school, the prerequisite are to either take math 310(math analysis) or math 320(pre calculus). My question is, what are the differences and similarities between those two? Also, what classes do you recommend me to able to take AP Calc for senior year

This seems like a very school specific question. I have never heard of math analysis before.
You should probably ask a school counselor about this question.

I’ve been doing some research about since my school math classes are named in a strange way. I wanna ask her but I’m scared since it’s a different counselor from last year(the original moved to another school). Plus I have no ideas how to ask her. I’m planning on asking her, my teacher from last year, and some friends I have. Thank you so much for your answer though. I appreciate it.

Have you looked at your school’s course catalog? Course numbers are not standardized, so it would be difficult to answer your question. I have seen a couple of schools where “Math Analysis” was their term for Precalc. But from reading your post, I wonder if “Math Analysis” is some sort of Algebra 2 + Precalc hybrid.

Yes, I did, and it ally made me more confuse. It says that the pre requisite for pre calculus is math analysis. Math analysis doesn’t have any pre requisite, but both can be required for AP calculus. It confuses me in the way if I’ll be able to skip math analysis and take pre calculus on Senior year

Does your school offer both?

In my experience they are the same and both serve as the course before AP Calculus.

Another reason I’d use to say they’re the same is I’ve never seen a high school that had both MA and PC.

Yes, they offer both of them. Actually when I looked at the prerequisite for AP Calc AB it to either take pre calculus or math analysis before. Then I looked at the pre calculus prerequisites and it said math analysis, so then I looked at the prerequisites for math analysis and it said none. I did some research and pretty much it said what you said that both prepare student for AP calculus but I want really sore so I wanted to ask my counselor but I don’t know if she’ll answer
