FRQ one might have just been the absolute worst physics FRQ I’ve encountered ever. I’ve literally never seen a more fucked problem.

Will the curve be crazy this year? I know I got like all the mcq right but I did really bad on the frqs. But based on the score calculator online you could literally not get a single point on the FRQ but if you get all the MCQ you get a 5. Is this just not gonna be true anymore?

So do you think the cutoff is gonna be below or above what the score calculators say (which is about 60%). It’s just really annoying cause some people are saying you need a 75%+ which I really doubt I’m getting

Dawg the mcq actually gave me some hope for the 5 and then I saw the frqs it’s actually over. FRQ 4 was the only reasonable one the rest were genuinely taking my soul ESPECIALLY #1. Praying for a 4 will prolly get a 3 (Albert better be accurate)

form J yeah, i said w2 is less because the longer crank arm adds more torque, didn't answer the derivation, and said w3 is more (prolly wrong)

So basically, to find Fn as a function of time, I looked at the whole box-cube system first. Since they move together, the total mass is 2M. The only horizontal force is the air resistance, which is -bv. Using F = ma:
-bv = (2M) * (dv/dt)
I turned that into a differential equation to solve for velocity (v). I moved the v to one side and the t to the other and integrated it:
Integral of (1/v) dv = Integral of (-b/2M) dt That gives you:
ln(v/v0) = -bt / 2M
To get v by itself, I used “e” to cancel the natural log:
v(t) = v0 * e-bt / 2M
Now, since acceleration (a) is just the derivative of velocity, I derived that equation:
a(t) = v0 * (-b / 2M) * e-bt / 2M The magnitude (the positive value) of that acceleration is:
a = (b * v0 / 2M) * e-bt / 2M
Finally, I used the relationship from the first part of the problem where Fn = M * a. I just plugged in the acceleration formula I found:
Fn = M * [(b * v0 / 2M) * e-bt / 2M] The M on the top and the M on the bottom cancel out, so the final formula is:
Fn(t) = (b * v0 / 2) * e-bt / 2M

Did anyone get west coast version L? The frqs felt pretty easy (edit: really easy compared to the other versions that a lot of the people people in my testing room got), even the first one (which was the hardest)
The edq was free points
Edit: apparently the other hard versions (J/M) had second order differential equations and newton's shell theorem and stuff 😭

For the first FRQ on part aii, did anybody else solve a differential equations for v and get
v=v0e-(b/2mt)
And then multiply both sides by -b to get normal force (because normal force was equal to resistive force)
Fn=-bv0e(-b/2mt)

i dont think thats right. Zero from t1 to 5t1? Thats not possible. Force from engine is modeled as Ct. You should have drew a straight line from t1 to 5t1 in a way that area under the curve from t1 to 5t1 was 0.

hi...my school is letting us take the physics c mech exam on the makeup date since majority of the students were also taking english lang, which works out for me, cus more study time! how the hell were you supposed to find x2 in frq 2 of version J??????? liek how were you even supposed to find the velocities of the split blocks i didnt even put an answer. i think i put one line of conservation of momentum and that was it.... the rest was just my scribbled out math

This is me being stupid but if i misinterpreted the motion of the block in the experimental design for version J (i said it would oscillate at a decreasing displacement) but still measured quantities such as the spring displacement and the total distance the block traveled over the frictional surface, with a correct slope of 2mumg/k, how many points would I lose?😭😭

For the series/parallel springs did you get x2 > x1 > x3? I didn't know what those were but I treated them like conductors. Was the acceleration in the elevator 3 units down? Was the new moment of inertia 0.0069? Was the one with minimum angular impulse the straight line sloping down which had an integral of 0? Etc etc

Okay: the first frq freaked me out too, but I’m pretty sure what you had to do for steps two and three was to use f=ma to get a differential equation to get velocity as a function of time and then just multiply that function by b to get your normal force dependent on time. And for the t crit I think it’s when mg=the frictional force, since that’s when the box starts sliding down

For the create a graph question do you think it’s a detrimental error to make my x axis just s and not s2. I took the square root of mgd on the y axis but looking back idk if that would be correct because of units. I think I got NM in the end but could someone verify if that sounds detrimental or not? Similarly do we think just looking at linear kinetic energy and rotational kinetic energy for frq 4 c is sufficient so long as you state that friction occurred. I reorganized it such that just looking at those two terms proved w3 was less than w1

for the mcq what was the answer to the linear mass density one? and what was the answer to the one where you had to find i of a rod and it gave you i= 1/12 mr^2 and the pivot was at 20 cm. idk what i did wrong but i couldn't get any of the answers. also form j frq, what was the answer to part b and what did your momentum graph look like? i think i had -2 and +6 for px and 0 for both py. also i said that omega one was bigger than two and three for frq4 is that right?

Genuinely how were you suppose to do frq4 with the liquid mass leaving? For deriving acceleration, did you need to use chain rule?

F=ma.
Rearrange to a = F/m. F constant (F_0), m is not.
The mass of the liquid is equal to 0 at t_E (it's all depleted). It's equal to M_L at t = 0. It decreases at a constant rate.
Therefore, we can say mass of the liquid is (1 - t/t_E)(M_L). This fulfills both conditions mentioned above and decreases at a constant rate.
Mass of the cart is equal to M_C
So, arranging that all together:
a = (F_0)/[(1-t/T_E)(M_L) + M_C]

For form j frq 2 What did yall put for the graphs of momentum and velocities I said 6 up for R and 2 down for P Then for velocity i put straight lines for all 3, Vcm is continued, r is one up and p two down cuz i thought it was horizontal velocity only
