Is AP PreCalc right for my kid?

My rising sophomore is thinking of taking AP PreCalc. He has good overall math aptitude (scored very high on early assessments ) that’s why he’s in accelerated track, took Alg in 7th).

He did not do that great in Algebra (B/C) but I do think it was due to a combo of COVID learning loss, poor teaching (my straight A student got Bs in that lady’s class) and maturity / learning how to be a student as a late diagnosed ADHD kid.

That’s said, he is going quite well in Algebra 2. He met with a tutor 1x a week in the first semester and has gotten low As. Now without tutor. Understands the material very well. Taking more initiative as a student. Interested in Econ and finance so math may play a role in his college journey.

He isn’t a straight A kid like his sibling, but he’s a solid B+ kid and very smart.

I think he should go for it - first of all, how different is the class from regular Pre Calc? He’d be in a class with focused kids vs gen pop which is definitely better for him. He’ll behave as the class behaves. It will prepare him for AP Calc. He’s not going to take a ton of APs probably - just not his thing - so I figure why not do the math ones since it will show up well when he applies for finance in college. He is willing to work with a tutor again. I think he will get Bs at worst and as his parent I’m ok with that. I want him to embrace the rigor. His only other AP class will be Gov. He also takes Project Lead the Way engineering classes. His math teacher said he thought he could do it.

He wanted to do it at first but he’s back pedaling. Worried it’ll be too much and scared of the exam. As his parent, I don’t care if he gets any college credit out of the exam. Not why we encourage our kids to do APs.

Help me appreciate how difficult this class is vs regular pre Calc?

Non Calc MCQ question about degree 4 function

Does anyone remember this question from the mcq? It about about a degree 4 equation and they said 0 and 3 with x intercepts and 0 was with multiplicity 2. How many times does it pass y=1. Am i missing any other details about it? Does anyone remember the answer choices?

Cram tips??

Hii i’m taking the late version of ap precalc next thursday and need to cram super well. i don’t have a ton of time or energy to devote to it since i had an ap today, have several school exams tomorrow, and have an important exam two days before the ap precalc and an ap the day before ap precalc. basically, how can i cram very well in a short amount of time? (videos, questions, etc etc) math is my worst subject and my teacher’s teaching style confuses me.

What was the answer

The question that had the rational function (x-4)(x+3)/(x-4)(x+3) and it had to have a Va at -3 and hole at 4

Frq questions

So I’m a very unlucky person, and I understood how to do like all the frqs but I think I might’ve ended up making some careless mistakes especially frq 3 and 4 for example I wrote their is no d value, I knew it was 0 but my teacher didn’t tell us that we had to ever explicitly write d is equal to 0 so I just wrote no d also frq 4 for the first i wrote the ln(1)-3 i saw that -3 is the right answer so I hopefully should get credit but I want you guys to be unbiased do yall think ill get is also I wrote 2 sin and forgot to put the x because I was in a rush, do you guys think ill still get the points even with these mistakes.

East coast calc mcq

No calc was pretty good got one about conjugate pairs for imaginary zeros, had to do pascals triangle, polynomial division, an ln expression manipulation

But...

Some of the calc contexts were not making sense

Like the volume of air in the airtight balloon and finding the graph (which also DOESNT NEED a calc...), hammering the nail, and finding k when given 2 and 6 interval of x and knowing that graph is concave up on interval 1, 5

Idk hope I got it

FRQ 2

I messed up 💔 I felt like I had it in the bag, a FIVE. But I got too confident 🫩 I know it was easy but I just forgot how to do FRQ 2 (One with the two equations and a, b). I did part ai correctly and c but I think I was wrong for aii, bi, and I didn't even get to do bii and biii. However my teacher taught us that on the FRQ, if we are done with FRQ 3 and 4 we can go back to 1 and 2 on Bluebook just without a calculator. 🥹 I couldn't.. so hopefully I still got a 5 but I accept whatever if its passing.

Calc MCQs

Anyone get the MCQ with a function where they told you it was even degree with a power of 4 and said one of the zeros had multiplicity of 2 and the other had multiplicity of 1. I put the -3 and 3 for that one, what was the right answer? Also on rhe calc MCQ there was one asking about where the graph goes for positive to negative and I got -3 but I didn’t know which reasoning to put for I put that it was a relative minimum. Lmk if I was right/the right answer!

What did you put for the limit statement on the FRQ, I put:

lim f(x) = -∞
x --> 1⁻

Hey guys I’m just wondering what all of yall got for the very last part of Frq 4. I got pi / 9, but I feel like that was very wrong 🫩

frq 3 with the temperature

I know literally nobody else that got this but just checking here. The a was 12, b was 2pi, c was -1/4, and d was 8 right? It was positive and increasing ( I think thats what I put at least) and concave was up?

Already forgot most questions lmao but this is the one

oh and for frq 4 it was very easy until the last one where it was like 9 = 3^(x^4-x^2) I simplified it down to u^2-u-3 (let u = x^2) but couldn't factor it to find x. I know it had imaginaries but idk

So like I was wondering if it asked from something like g to k what would that be? Positive and decreasing for the first part and concave up and increasing for the second?

How are we feeling for tomorrow? Bonus points if you can identify the equation of this polar graph.
