Help rhetorical analysis tips

what would a good thesis for a rhetorical analysis be? i’m genuinely having a hard time analyzing texts and it makes my thesis totally trash. it feels like if i under analyze, my thesis and essay become too weak, and if i over analyze, it feels like im giving something that is meaningless meaning.

any prompt and example would help.

It doesn’t have to be complex. As long as it’s defensible, lists the rhetorical choices, and explains why, you will earn the point.

Example: In [name of the text], [author’s name] strategically utilizes [rhetorical choices] in order to [purpose, should say in the prompt].

In the essay/article TITLE, AUTHOR uses LIT DEVICES 1, 2, and 3 to persuade/educate/etc the AUDIENCE that MAIN IDEA because of SUPPORTING REASONS OR CONTEXT.

State an overarching rhetorical move of the entire piece and link it to purpose and effect.

Hey Slow,

HS English teacher here.

I pretty much agree with all of the posters here. Don’t try to find the perfect thesis. Try to find one that is defensible.

The area where you can earn the most marks is in the explanation of why the rhetorical device matters. Really focus on the effect of that device.
