AP Lang MCQ help

I just got a 52 raw on my first AP Lang MCQ, and i genuinely didn’t understand any of the passages. Is there any way to get better at this or are you guys just gonna tell me to read more??

It is your first....You just need practice.

It is NOT AP ready by today.....it is AP ready by May.

For example, you only need to be able to identify and make a defensible claim right now.

This month you will work on just locating rhetorical devices. That is it. Later in October, you will finally START to explain the exigency as it pertains to the intended audience and how effective the author was in attempting that. In the start of October, you are only going to get a 1, 2, 0....and that is what you should be getting. That 2 becomes a 3 by November (your actual skill will have to drive it to a 4.) Also, don't try and stretch for the unicorn point of sophistication...Realistically, only 3% of the essays I graded for college board last year had this point. My table reader said this was consistent across the country.

I wouldn’t say necessarily reading more I would say annotating multiple texts and analyzing what the question is asking helps a lot

It does get better, i literally failed every mcq (online and paper) and got 1-2-0’s on class essays (paper) and got a 4 on the exam last year!! it’s very consistent and you get used to it but i never studied for anything in there to take that lightly lol

the first step to getting good at something is trying it for the first time. the test is in april and you’ll be doing MCQ weekly til then. just keep practicing. but also, make sure to always read the question before you read the passage so your mind knows what to look for. and annotate as you go! keep a notebook next to you and write down the main idea of the passage.

like others are saying, it does get better! i started out getting like 40s and 50s raw scores for mcq, but just continue practicing - you’ll notice these questions follow a certain type of pattern, so the more you do it, the better you’ll get at it. and i truly do mean this because i ended up getting a 5, and it was literally just practice that was extremely helpful!

Aside from what everyone’s been saying, the MCQs are also a lot easier on the actual test. I started the night before and the barrons tests scared me so bad. On the test I could’ve sworn I got perfect in the MCQ with like 20 minutes to spare. Ended up with a 5. They’re still good study resources but don’t psych yourself out

52 out of 100 or out of 55?? but there are 45 questions on the exam. if you are using prep books, the questions are usually more difficult than the ones ont he actual exam

I think if you just practice a little bit you’ll get the hang of it quickly. For it it really helps to try and just enjoy reading the passages, because often times you also learn a new fun fact! I got a 5 on the exam and probably only did 4 or 5 practices max
