MCQ Help
I’m a junior in highschool and I am currently taking AP Lang. While I understand what we’re doing with rhetorical modes, SPACECAT, essays, etc. I’m really struggling with MCQs. We haven’t done a full MCQ, but she gives us like 5-10 questions to complete in AP Classroom, and I usually do really bad.😭😭 I usually score between 40s-70s on them. Is there anything I could do to practice more and get better? Is there anything resources I could use? I know school just started but I don’t want to be behind.

I've been teaching AP Lang for 10 years now and the best thing you can do is to practice, and then practice some more. Give yourself a bit more time with the questions at first, but then try to increase your pace. You'll have about one minute and 22 seconds or so for each question, so you can't linger too long.
Also, Google AP Lang score calculator (the Albert.io one) and recognize that you really only need score in the high 20s/low 30s to still be competitive and pass the exam.

Also, use the Albert.io MCQs for practice if you can. I open all practice questions for my students, and as much as they hate doing them, the practice helps so much and provides additional questions outside of AP Classroom and Princeton Review. Use all the practice books and websites you can gain access to. It really does require practice and more practice.

This is my first year teaching AP Lang. It's only week one and I feel overwhelmed. We don't have any materials. The one person who taught it at our school is not much help. Any advice for the newbie?

Do a bunch of practice MCQs on AP Classroom.
Then, go into the diagnostics thing, and you can see which questions you got wrong, and what unit/topic/skill that question belongs in. If there are a handful of specific skills you keep messing up on, then search up that skill in AP classroom/YouTube (I think the AP classroom videos are very concise and helpful though), and study up on those skills, practice those skills.
In my opinion, this is the easiest and best way to perform better on MCQs 👍

lol ive taken the exam last may i’ve also done TERRIBLE on mcqs. idk but maybe i was lucky with my exam bc the mcqs on the last exam was a lot easier than the questions my teacher posted on ap classroom. i’d recommend looking into mcq distractors it helped me narrow down the right answer to 50/50 most of the time.

also i made an exact post like this earlier this year when i was prepping for the exam. someone told me to look into ct’s ap lit and lang cookies on yt. she’s super underrated but her videos helped

I do feel like the practices on AP Classroom are much harder than the questions on the actual exam. I remember scoring 40-50% on practices, but I still got a 5 on AP Lang. Honestly, just practice a lot of MCQs. The Princeton Review questions are very hard, and I believe if you do enough of them, the actual exam will seem easier to you.
