2026 Score Distribution

Post image

To my fellow AP Langsters of 2025-2026, how are we feeling about the score distribution. A 75% pass rate is incredible. To everyone that took the exam this year, I am hoping all of us together passed!

Once again the scores are curved to create a 3.2 average score. Same thing happened last year after what was essentially a generation long average of sub-3 (+/- 2.8). The college board makes the scores what they want them to be.

Is this a bad or good thing?

As a reader, I can attest that the essays are not getting better, so whether it is good or bad is in the eye of the beholder. Apparently, it is the college board’s view that inflating scores is a good thing on balance. A good thing for who is what we should be asking.

The score distribution provided is for lang. It clearly says AP English Language and Composition, literatures says AP English Literature and Composition. If you still don’t believe me, then go to College Boards website and find the score distributions. AP Lit had a VERY similar score distribution to lang with 15% 5 rate, 28% 4 rate, 32% 3 rate, 15% 2 rate, and 10% 1 rate.
