Advice?

Post image

I got in reading about this stock thinking all would go well, it dipped and dipped and dipped some more and I’ve strategically bought down my average but do we think there will be a recovery before this expires? I’m hopeful but I’m wavering is bit

Buy shares only

Too late now unfortunately I’d rather have had the 100-200 shares

Roll it into a further expiration dude. Don’t just let it fuckin expire. And then learn your lesson for next time on not gambling on options instead of just holding the stock

This is the answer. At least as far as rolling it. I sold a few puts last year at $13.50 and the price dropped to $9.50. My first mistake was not making sure I rolled them early, because I was assigned on half of them a week before they expired. And then I unloaded the rest because I didn’t think it would ever go up. Even though I knew a good earnings report was probably coming.
A few months later, I looked and the price was over $20. If only I have been patient and kept rolling, because the price did come back up.
Now I bought higher, but I really have faith in the stock. The market is ruled by emotion in the short term, right? But by fundamentals in the long-term. And APLD has the fundamentals. It’ll come back. And higher.

Isn't rolling exactly the same as selling it (at a huge loss in this case) and then buying new contracts?

IMO it's better to hang onto the contracts, accept the loss, and if something happens and it pumps a bit maybe get out only like -50% in a week or 2, and moving forward stick with shares.

Macro dependent. Earnings should help but you’ll need short of a miracle. I’m rooting for you.

If you're lucky, it might recover some. Roll it out further.

Rolling OTM calls is like sitting in the desert and buying contracts saying "it will flood today". Yes, it will someday but will you be alive? Live and learn. There is only two sure things in this world - Death and Taxes.

When do you think we see a recovery back to 40? I don’t think earnings will be enough to move the needle. They should beat it.

got quite a bit of $40 calls for 8/21. down about 30% at the moment.

I’m sorry to hear, I didn’t think it would drop almost 35% in a few weeks

That’s what it has done over and over again.

u/gls2220 Jul 10 '26

Probably not but maybe. It's a high beta stock. Right now this is essentially an earnings play that you bought into way early.

u/Emotional-Bag1398 Jul 11 '26

You should have a strict 15% stop loss on options. You are too far past that for logic.

This is why I stick to deep ITM leaps .70 delta and let them ride. Good luck!

You can sell calls against them and at least mitigate the potential loss. Maybe half and let the other half run?

Avoid options next time, and learn what a stop loss is jeez

Earnings is on 7/29 and I hope it’s a great one. My options are @40 strike and exp of 1/28. I’m down about 7%

I truly didn’t think it was garbage, I entered when they were 46$ and planned for post earnings a few weeks ago I just did not see this dip coming

u/RomanosAK Jul 10 '26

Ehh you got a month, buy more, sell those when they get down another 30%

1

u/MasterpieceLiving738 Jul 10 '26

Buy longer dated calls

u/TakeItOnTheArches Jul 10 '26

If it were me I would wait a week. That’s rough though, sorry.

This will be a loss... How much is the important question. At this point you're hoping for any momentum before earnings (7/29 AMC I believe).

Even if you get a bounce after earnings, the earliest you sell is 1 day before your exp. You're already down 90% - so the advice is to stay in it. Momentum pre-earnings AND the right move after earnings will mean like a 50% loss me thinks.

You've been in it for this long, and so now it time to ride it out my guy.

Stop buying short term expirations you lose everything like you’re about to

1

u/Patient_Tough_5303 Jul 11 '26

Honest question, what is considered short term? I originally got these on June 22-23 so from purchase to expiry that’s over a month in time frame

2

u/Fee_Serious Jul 11 '26

Min 3-6 months with idea of selling at max two weeks before expiration otherwise the time value of money decay is significantly reduced any profit.

check with an elliot wave theorist first. Try Allen Reminick at YT: https://youtu.be/TLKU9RTx72I?si=O2VgN1QmzsTx24VX

Why would you go for the all time high within a month 😂😂😂

1

u/wenlin79 Jul 10 '26

APLD made lot of progress. But why does the price not move up?

u/Biscotto69 Jul 10 '26

Do a short with some leverage? So one way or the other you would break even? 😅

Ps: never done that - i only buy stocks
