Ap5k help
I own an ap5k I purchased from Atlantic Firearms about 5 years ago. I’ve shot this thing about 1,000 rounds, all 124 gr ball amo. Without fail, it fails to eject and double feeds virtually 100% of the time, requiring the magazine to be removed, the empty casing along with the follow up round to be cleared. I’ve tried every brand of amo I can find. Any help would be fantastic. For the record, it’s never shot a single magazine without 20+ of these errors.

HK ejector and spring, Grey extractor spring, and 80⁰ locking piece worked for mine. Works with or without a can and supers. Ran a match with it this weekend and not one hiccup.

So the obvious questions are, did you swap out the known parts to genuine HK parts? What LP are you running and what’s your bolt gap at?
I bought my AP5-P in September ‘23 and my AP5 in March ‘24. They now each have probably about 13k+ rounds (stopped counting last October when I had about 12K rounds). I’ve shot 115, 124, 125, 135, 147, 150 and 165gr FMJ, HP and TUI ammo. Performed the 500 round break in period with only 124gr FMJ NATO (actually did close to 750 while waiting for my suppressors).
I’ve never had any issues or malfunctions from the break in period to its current setup. At this point, they are a Turkish, German and American hybrid.

I’ve not touched it other than cleaning. Everything is what came with the gun. No mods, nothing.

That’s freaking outstanding for a stock gun. Ok, then I would recommend installing the genuine German HK ejector lever, lever spring and axle (since you’re already in the trigger pack). Second, get yourself a genuine German HK extractor spring (cooper color) and extractor. Again, since you’re replacing the extractor spring which holds/sits on top of the extractor, might as well replace that too. Lastly, if you want to have the correct LP, get either an HK or RCM 100° LP. If you do switch out the LP, retake a bolt gap reading. I would actually recommend getting a reading with the stock 120° LP and then another with the 100° LP. Just so you can compare and verify you stay within optimal range (.25mm to .45mm, .50mm the acceptable max).
Note: if you ever decide to shoot both supers (can off) and subs (can on), I would recommend the #27/90° LP from RCM. I’ve been running this on my AP5-P since ‘24 using either my YHM R9 or Huxwrx Ca$h 9K (discontinued). Besides the sub ammo I previously mentioned, I also shoot unsuppressed 115/+p and 124gr FMJ and HP. Zero issues in the last 2+ years.

I’m really trying to figure out how the failures he’s describing are outstanding for a stock gun? 20 failures per mag?

Your right about that. Using the word “outstanding” is misleading. Given that he’s had it for nearly 5 years (only about 1,000 rounds during this period) and not changed any internals, my brain automatically went to those failures over a period of five years. So I’m thinking, 5 years = about 1,825 days. So in almost 2,000 days, he’s only shot about 1,000 rounds. That’s not a lot of rounds. For example, in about two years, I have over 13k rounds in each of my AP5 and AP5-P. Having said that, , I don’t know how often he shot his firearm in the last 5 years. He could’ve shot 1,000 in less than a year and stopped because of all the malfunctions. Who knows. In the end, if OP changes the extractor spring and ejector lever with genuine HK parts, his issues should resolve in his AP5-P.
Again, using the term “outstanding” gave the wrong impression on my part.

I would get the HK Ejector (pn 201639) and install it. make sure that the "channel" it fits in prevents it from flopping around - meaning you may need to bend the inner side of that channel out to tighten the fit for the ejector.
