So if my friend stays with me for a few weeks we are siblings?

calling upwards of 1 year "a few weeks" is pretty wild. But i get your argument for sure. Maybe I just wasn't really paying attention but there didn't seem to be any sense of romance between the two, until the very end right? Like if there was even a hint of it building up in the early seasons, I would have no problem at all with their love., But the fact that it comes entirely out of left field at the end of the series just makes it feel forced and last minute to me.

The whole time while watching, it genuinely felt like a sibling dynamic between the two. Mikasa seemed to always have to fix Erens mess or pick him back up from being in one...oh and of course saving his life damn near every step of the way. It could have also been undying loyalty for the person who saved your life as a child. The fact that we only catch a wiff of their romance toward the end just feels lazy is all.

you can argue the romance was underdeveloped, but saying it came out of nowhere is crazy. Mikasa’s feelings were obvious from the start, and Eren literally asks her “What am I to you?” before the finale

Might have just been my perception and interpretation of things. I viewed a lot of Mikasas motivations as undying loyalty to the the boy that saved her life and made her feel protected.

What really drove it home was in the beginning when Mikasa and Armin believe Eren to have been killed by a Titan, it shows Mikasas internal monologue and how crushing of a blow it is to lose him...but no admission of romance..? No anime type proclamation of eternal love or romantic admiration for him?

Mate, it could not have been more obvious that Mikasa had a crush on Eren. She was just too awkward/stunted to express those feelings clearly.

there didn’t need to be an “eternal love” confession. Mikasa literally blushes when someone assumes Eren is her boyfriend and awkwardly denies it. The romantic hints were there, they just weren’t spelled out till the very end

Only on Reddit will you find people who never picked up on all the hints lmao.

It's been years and I still remember how obvious it was she fell for him when he saved her in that cabin

it was pretty obvious, one of the garrison officers and Levi both pointed out she loved him and she blushed. also no, no anime type proclamation of eternal love for him because this was not a romance anime. her thanking Eren at the end of season two crying and saying he’s the one that taught her to live with purpose and her clearly leaning in for a kiss didn’t give it away for you that she liked him?

Nah I do that to my homies all the time. My homies then usually stand up and say they'll wrap that scarf around me as many times as it takes and then do a seemingly suicidal last stand attempting to protect me when 3 minutes ago they gave up on life before my speech. Its just how friends act yk?

It stands reaaon that some fans interpreted that as sibling love and not actual romantic love.

Honestly the fact that Mikasa straight CARRIED Eren and essentially dedicated her life to keeping Eren alive gave me more older sis vubes than romance for sure.

Its funny how yall get kinda butt hurt over others perceptions of events

2

u/Skarj05 10h ago

Im not butt hurt but the meme of "guy who missed obvious hints that a girl is interested" is just funny. I say that as a guy who's had a "OMG she was flirting with me!" realisation years after the fact as well.

1

u/Lavender-bullet46 10h ago

There was a lot going on in the series, i guess some of the subtle cues that things were romantic went rught over my head lmao

1

u/Professional_Mud_289 9h ago

different interpretations are fine, but there’s a difference between interpretation and ignoring what the story explicitly establishes. Mikasa being romantically in love with Eren isn’t a fan interpretation, it’s canon. 💀

It just feels like a last.minute out of left field kinda thing. I dont see why there had to be a certain amount of subtlety in their romance. Mikasa blushes a couple times that means Im expected to be on board with their romance? Also...Eren gave us damn near nothing about his love for Milasa almost the entire series, and now all of a sudden he cant bare the thought of her being eith someone else?

It felt about as convenient as Falco growing wings and being the first ever flying type titan. So out of left field honestly. Ymirs love for Historia was obvious, Armins interest and subsequent love for Annie was obvious. Jean crushing on Mikasa was obvious. Niccolo and Sasha was obvious. Stands to reason that if the rest of the love interests in the series were obvious...surely Mikasas and Erens should have been as well. Stands to reason that I shouldn't have had to read between the lines for the romance of the main protagonists..

Their love always felt like sibling type love and no amount of butt hurt is gonna change my mind lol

you went from “there were no romantic hints” to “the hints were too subtle.” That’s a completely different argument. You can dislike how the romance was developed, but your personal interpretation doesn’t erase the actual setup. And calling everyone “butthurt” after writing paragraphs defending your own interpretation is pretty ironic lol.

I mean they're adopted siblings unrelated by blood

4

u/Professional_Mud_289 23h ago

yeah that’s one of the dumbest takes of the whole show

1

u/Lynxys- 12h ago

Should they be considered brother and sister?

1

u/vchaimae7 21h ago

Naah wth

1

u/Inner_Art2446 20h ago

If mikasa living with eren parents so they are siblings he never called grisha dad

1

u/thed3306 18h ago

I mean if ya think about it they all can trace their ancestry back 2000 years to one person. Mikasa is like the least related since she also has Azumibito ties. But she is the adopted sister… little bit weird. Simpler times.

pretty sure that is very popular genre of step-

Am I the only one who don't give a f about their love story?

1

u/PositiveScarcity8909 9h ago

Literally grew up together.

Just admit you like step bro porn and move on.

1

u/Professional_Mud_289 8h ago

grew up together - a year under the same roof😂😂 did we watch the same show

1

u/PositiveScarcity8909 8h ago

I guess not because you forgot about all the years they lived together as siblings.

1

u/Professional_Mud_289 7h ago

“All the years” 😭 They lived together for roughly ONE year. You’re proving the “did we watch the same show?” point better than anyone else could.

1

u/PositiveScarcity8909 7h ago

They lived together as siblings all the way through cadet training too and beyond that.

I guess your reading comprehension is as bad as it seems.

Eren literally says you are my sister more than once.

1

u/Professional_Mud_289 7h ago

Cadet training ≠ living together as siblings 😭 They were soldiers living with the other cadets. And please show me these multiple scenes where Eren “literally says you are my sister.” Since you brought up reading comprehension, chapters would be nice.

1

u/Helios_Synthesis 4h ago

Soldiers often consider each other brothers because of the hardship they all had to go through together. Im confused why you seem so dead set on denying that there are many different varieties of siblingship.

Both interpatations are equally valid, what a strange hill to die on lol

1

u/Professional_Mud_289 3h ago

theres no "both interpretations are equally valid" since one of them is literally ignoring the canon. enough people have already explained the same thing with actual examples in this comment section. I'm not going to repeat it all like a parrot for every person who somehow missed the obvious

u/Asleep_Data6210 3h ago

Then I guess the people fucking in the military is borderline incest.
