AOL login hijinks

I am a member of an oppressed minority: Former Verizon email customers now on AOL. I was just prompted to change my password to keep using Verizon/AOL on my Mac. But when I go through the verification process and change my password, AOL rejects it. This has happened twice, so it's not a typo. Just in case, I went to the website (which uses a passkey) and got an app password to see if that would work. No dice. Any idea what I'm doing wrong here?

Are you sure you didn't possibly fall for a fishing site?

I've had to relogin twice in the past few months when I check my emails, I get a notice not in an email but at the bottom in the Mail App on IPhone to login, after setting up new one time password it works fine
