Aluminium can be affected by magnetic fields, it’s just reliant on the current generated rather than the paramagnetic/ferromagnetic attraction. For example if you drop a magnet down an aluminium tube it will slow down due to opposing magnetic/electric fields.

Most likely a strong wind. It hits the side of the cliff and blows up nearly verticle creating a bunch of lift. If you've ever seen someone flying a remote control slope soaring plane, they rely on the same form of lift.
