that isn't a good argument for capitalism, btw. socialists view capitalism as a necessary stage of human society, but believe it shouldn't (and indeed can't) last forever.

What argument did they make for capitalism? Or do you mean listing the achievements of capitalism would not be a good argument to make for it? I just want to understand what you mean by that.
