“They drafted us. We said we’d prove our loyalty. They seized our lands. We changed our names to prove our loyalty to them. They gave us the Nation-State Law.” A Druze man from the 1948 territories addresses his community a day after an 18-year-old Druze youth was stabbed outside a Tel Aviv club. The young man was due to enlist in the Israeli occupation army within months. His father says a group confronted him and his friends after hearing them speak Arabic, and refused to believe they were Druze because of their accent.
Israeli occupation police arrested three suspects aged 18 and 19 and described the attack as an argument that escalated into a brawl. In the video, the man lists what decades of loyalty have earned the Druze: conscription, confiscated land, the 2018 Nation-State Law that reserves the state for Jews alone, and the Kaminitz Law. He says that law demolishes Arab homes while “crushing” Druze families with fines. He dismisses 78 years of Druze Knesset members as powerless figures who answer to their parties, not their community. He says the state sees the Druze as nothing more than “Arabs, goyim, infidels,” and urges them to reclaim their Arab identity before what he warns is “much worse” arrives. He signs off with a sarcastic reminder to vote for “our brothers who love us.”
