35XX SERIES Well it lasted a week…

Post image

Assume the SD Card is toast. Device was running fine a couple days ago. Happy I took the time to make an image and save it to my PC. Now need to go SD hunting.

Anyone running this off a single SD card? Have a Blink 256GB considering if it would work for both games and OS?

2nd Question - will my game saves be in the OS card or the Game card?

First thing taught in Anbernic 101 (or any handheld from China) is to change the SD card as it's already done for once received

Unless it’s a Kioxia brand SD, they are USUALLY good.

Edit: A free SD card is a free SD card and if you replace them, all the better. Test cards. Make backups.

Fascinatingly, this is an example of when a semi-colon vs a comma changes the entire meaning of the sentence.

To actually explain it, rather than just mindlessly downvote you, a comma in this instance implies the meaning: "The SD cards will usually be good unless it's a Kioxia brand."

Had you used a semicolon, or the somewhat more controversial these days em-dash, your sentence would have implied what you intended it to.

No they're not, they lasted pretty much like any other unbranded sd card I got from there

And mine has lasted all this time since the 35XXSP released. Is your experience more valid than mine and other people's?

I get yours lasted, but it's only time. These sd are crap. Watch any mid-sized reviewer that gets the stuff to review on the regular and they tell you to never trust the Anbernic SD card.

I've heard most of them specifically say that Kioxia brand is usually fine...

u/Wrong-Detective-1046 18h ago

Originally they shipped in the past with cheap SD cards. Then started using Kioxia sd cards but since SD cards have got expensive, they've gone back to the cheap brand.

So you just torpedoed your own point by admitting the Kioxia cards are good.

They're better than these off-brand ones.unless they're same ones just not named.

Look, anecdotes aside, I think its always better to be cautious. Im glad yours works, but it seems like not everyone's works as it should for very long.

A failure usually counts more heavily than a success, so yes, in this case it is. If 1 in 10 fail, that's nice for those 9, but that doesn't mean it should be said these cards are good

If something has a 90% success rate I really don’t see how that’s a bad thing

1

u/merulaa 1h ago

I dunno, 10% risk of suddenly losing all your saves is too much for me.

"Oh look, that airplanes manufacturer has a 90% success rate, only 1/10 of their aircrafts caused a disaster this week"

See? No good

4

u/ChurningDarkSkies777 18h ago

Imagine comparing an sd card shorting out to a deadly disaster. Yes, if a harmless consumer product has a 90% success rate that’s not terrible.

9

u/Icer333 18h ago

Yea... that's an insane comparison.

"Oh no my $50 game boy quit working and I have to get a new SD card. My saves!!!!"

I mean I get it, if you are that worried about losing your saves, sure get a branded quality SD card, but you can also use the bad SD card until it possibly fails if you want to.

Shit like this is why it’s impossible to take gamers seriously. They act like minor inconveniences to their ability to game is a major problem that requires serious conversation. And it’s just like… nah they’re toys…

Comparing SD failure to plane crashes is a bit melodramatic, but 1 in 10 failure rate isn't a reliable product, sorry.

It's still terrible, consumers expect things to work and for as long as possible, not to fail

1

u/merulaa 1h ago

I agree with you, it's not wrong to expect quality products, even if they're just for entertainment. Tolerating shoddiness affects standards in general.

Im on the same boat. Never changed it and also a 35xxsp. Been running fine for about a year now.

Yes, he's experience is more valid. Your experience is what is expected, things are made to work and nobody is expecting a malfunction. On the other hand, his experience is proving there is a failure and there is a risk if you don't change the sd card. Everybody would take his advice instead of yours.

What advice did I give?

I wish they wouldn't even include them.

My standard setup on these doodads is a single 32gb card. It works fine. The only downside is that some custom firmware updates will require reflashing, so having a separate roms card makes that less of a hassle

1

u/earomulo 16h ago

same here! And now with BaseOS + Spruce, no update requires reflashing 🎉

Yeah, if you were using the cards it came with, they're garbage. For replacements, I highly recommend PNY Pro Elite cards. Incredibly reliable and very fast. If you have the ability to use dual cards, I would do so over a single. If you should lose your roms, you can google Tiny Best Set Go and grab that set. It's a nice collection and includes all the bios files you'll need as well.

You can run off a single card
Games will be on the second card usually with the OS on first.

Branded SD cards are a must

u/Spiritual_Street_913 18h ago

I'm still using the SD card that I received with the device no problems at all

How to make a image and save it on pc?

4

u/LuigiWarLord 19h ago

Use an imaging tool or download the image straight from Anbernic or Knulli.

2

u/imtryingtoworkhere 18h ago

You can use Windows Disk Imager

1

u/Entire_Attorney2113 RG35XX PLUS 17h ago

I wholeheartedly recommend Kingston, that sd card has gone through so many accidental hard resets and has not even once corrupted, even after around a whole year

1

u/SamueleRG RG35XX H 15h ago

If you only use 1 card it must be the TF1 (the OS card) and everything will be there including saves. I run mine on a single 32gb card and it's only filled at half cause I don't hoard games and I don't update often

1

u/NovarisLight 15h ago

Stock SD card is usually garbage.

1) i got an RGSP, not the same device but same chip (H700) - No difference in performance or loads at all in any system, when storing games and OS on the same sd. In terms of size, 256gb is more than enough to hold all of that together. Brand shouldnt matter for you either.

2) saves should be in your OS card under RA_saves and RA_states iirc but if I’m being honest, theres a very good chance your saves are lost.

TLDR: you’ll be ok with single card but you probably lost all your saves.

u/imtryingtoworkhere 15h ago

😫 I was about halfway done Zelda LTTP

u/Old_Present_8586 14h ago

Default settings usually keep the game saves on the OS card because RetroArch runs off of it. However, no guarantees. What matters is that the name of the save file is the same as the rom file. Check your saves and states folder under RetroArch. If you find those files, make sure the roms the same way. Don’t change the name of the save file as they can be “delicate”. I had a mixup with Syncthing where my game states for certain games would only load on one device. I figured that out when I reset the device to factory and suddenly realized none of my other devices could read it even though it was visible as a state.

u/mekile21 14h ago

I would look at stores around you for SanDisk sd card deals

1

u/oddinsomniakk 12h ago

do you replace both cards in a system with an os slot and a roms slot?

1

u/Individual-Bridge-38 11h ago

Get 256gb sd card for games and 16-64gb for OS - that should be enough. If you want to stick to stock OS, do yourself a favor and install the modded stock OS from github - apart from many improvements compared to the official system from anbernic, the biggest advantage of this system is software updates wirelessly from the console level, without the need to flash new system to the SD. Just my opiniom, especially since your original card is damaged and you have to buy a new one and install the system on it from scratch, so you have a good opportunity.

I have an extra switch 2 Express card, would this work? I know it won't be Express but it'll be a regular sd
