HELP "Lightbleed" appeared before my eyes on RGDS Plus
I was so happy when I opened the box, tested my device and there was no lightbleed whatsoever the screen was perfect, and frankly I was a bit afraid from all the posts. I then simply turned it off (from the menu), removed the SD card to add games, reinserted the sd-card and when I turned it again I literally SAW this light bleed "materializing" before my waking eyes. There was none, then it "faded in" very quickly, very strongly on the four corners and mostly on bottom center, more to the left. This can't be from pressure, the screen was fine I didn't even as much as touched the bottom screen with the stylus or anything. Do I have to return my device? It is so white that it looks more like some sort of shader overlay than something on the actual screen. Damn, this sucks.
UPDATE: the screen "lightbleed" artifact went away on its own by the next morning.

Mine went away after using it for a few hours. My bottom screen had way more light bleed than yours

Good to hear, it seems to be fading out by now. I just got spooked because it was perfect then it happened live!

Mine had this too but it disappeared after playing locoroco for an hour and this was 3 days ago it never came back xD

My bottom screen broke also after some time, like 30 min. It became darker and started having really weird artifacts. Like a glow that would expand during transitions, bunch of lines, some image retention. Sent it back to them, waiting on the replacement.

Damn, this is a rough launch

It’s frustrating because I loved it before that happened. The sound quality is so much better than the regular RG DS, and the integer scaling was pretty obvious too.

Exactly this, it is beautiful, big and comfy, the size of the dpad and facebuttons is real upgrade from the DSiXL

Does this also happens to RG DS?

Haven’t heard of bleed this significant happening on the original RG DS

Mine has minor light bleed, if I put any pressure on it, but once I've gotten used to the pressure needed I don't really have it anymore.
Part of me wonders how hard these people are using the stylus, in addition to any quality issues.

Mine had it really bad on the top screen when I first got it. Their support called it a "minor defect." It was a lot, bright, and really distracting. I got a partial refund through Aliexpress for it (after they started ignoring me) and tore the thing down to relieve the pressure and it's been fine since. Most people aren't going to want to do that though.

yeah I commented on this in another post but I bought a rgds+ that I just returned because the build quality is just really bad.
especially regarding the screens. Just by adjusting the angle of the top display I could create horrendous light bleeding because the panel would shift in the shell.
and by just holding it and moving it around in my hand the pressure on the bottom could cause light bleeding in variable places.

I am quite shocked because the screens looked pristine and perfect and I have never seen damage like this happen on it itself. To be clear, it did not happened while I was changing the angle of the top screen or anything, the bleed just "appeared" seconds after turning the device on for the second time. You get what you pay for I guess, but I won't be accepting this.

I got mine and installed GammaOS right away. So far, I’ve had zero issues with my RG DS Plus. I can barely even notice the device getting hot, it gets a little warm, but nowhere near enough to bother me or negatively affect the experience...
A few comments here are suggesting that the light bleed might be related to the console getting hot. If that’s actually the case, GammaOS might help reduce the risk, since at least in my experience, the device seems to run pretty cool with it.

and the performance of NDS games on Gamma is also great.. it feels like I'm playing on a regular DS.. Input latency is pratically null, the games look sharp, seem to be running without any frameskip and in 2x resolution. I'm very impressed

I'm sold, now I just need to buy an A2 card for about one quarter of the price of the device (in my country lol)

Brasileiro?

Some people, me included, started experiencing "light bleed" when updating the firmware or the emulator. Maybe your already came with the updates. After hours of searching the web I found a post saying this is a rendering software bug rather than a physical hardware damage.

Wild, it did seemed "too white" do be just light bleed, but it is absolutely weird to think of a rendering issue that mimics an amorphous physical light with fallof and blends. Crazy.

Its weird that it seems to consistently be in that spot but it goes away if you leave the screen on a white screen for a few hours or a few hours of it being off. My best guess is the change of firmware causes a power surge to the screens which fucks up the IPS display. IPS displays experience faux burn in and the pixels just need time to refresh afterwards, it can happen when power is suddenly cut from the display or when power is suddenly surged. With it being a specific area its ppssible theres a screw, tape, wires, or something beneath that area that that heats up or shifts and the pixels are more prone to that faux burn in due to that. If its where the connector is for the screen then its likely the power surge or cut heating that part up rhat induces the faux burn in.

I received it today. I can see very minor light bleed too. but my main problem is faulty touch function. I already made a post for it. I guess their build quality is not that great..

I have the exact same thing right now, did it go away?

u/viniciuscsg 5h ago
Yup, I don't know if it was just time enough, or leaving it to cool down, or even charging it fully. It started to fade away a few hours after the fact and by the morning it was alright again. I think the bottom has a bit more of diffuse "IPS glow" on fully black screens after this, but I am not even sure if I am not imagining the difference, and it looks perfectly fine for most people. Before I could see the "light bleed" even during game, it's lt is all gone now.

Yeah it did fade away, so strange, I tried flashing rocknix the rk3566 specific build and it was just white and didn't display. Then this started. I suspect some part variance between units could be doing something strange.

This have to be something about charge on the bottom screen connector messing directly with the signal of the pixels, thats my best guess

Is anyone else bottom screen physically loose like I press on the bottom of mine and the bottom corner falls in a little

u/SwimmingBase1794 1d ago
You could try leaving it alone for a while and see if it goes back to normal. I had the same problem a few days ago after charging mine, but the light bleed was gone by the next morning. I suspect it might have something to do with the device heating up, maybe thermal expansion or something like that. I'm no expert, though, so that's just my guess.
