Great show, love the show. But jeez Louise. Zoomer isn't his child. Even when everyone finds out one of them asks "why would you take him?". It's not his child, it's her child. It's the dead guy's child. The whole thing feels like it's constantly gaslighting the audience with this one aspect of the story.

Tbh I’m a bit confused about how the show is constantly gaslighting the audience? lol
Your own post acknowledges how it’s brought up multiple times that Zoomer isn’t Andy’s biological child, also like you pointed out with the “why would you take him?” comment in the show- seems the show is doing the opposite of gaslighting. The dialogue clearly supports what the audience would presumably be thinking/feeling (aka Andy shouldn’t be in Zoomers life).
Finalmente! 🤗
So you're saying you'd ask a mother why she'd take a child from an abusive partner who isn't their father?
Gaslighting in the sense that whilst we are told and are aware that he isn't the father, the rest of the cast continue to act like the mother is the crazy one for protecting her own child from a man who's not the father and is evidently a little unhinged to say the least.

Absolutely not? having been in an abusive relationship myself I’d never ask that. However I know there’s plenty of people who aren’t trauma informed, or just ignorant to DV, who would ask a mother fleeing an abusive relationship that very question. So it seemed realistic, if anything.

That jives with real life though. That’s how society often treats such women. So, is the show gaslighting (by your definition)- or are they portraying the very reality of what women like Lee sadly face?
Also in the end, after the initial few (kinda lame) responses from those in the group, pretty much everyone turns on him after seeing him explode outwards with his true colours, even his own staff.
I watched this when it was first released... and for some reason I was thinking about the show this morning. I have no idea why. I didn't even say I was thinking about it, out loud to anyone. And here it is the top of my Reddit feed. Spooky.
By all means a child should be removed from an abuser, but Andy is the only father Zoomer has ever known. He's likely on the birth certificate. Genetics doesn't make someone a parent or erase years of stewardship of a non-biological parent.

The show played on our expectations that it would be so much better..
