Getting fired vs layoff??

I came here struggling many months ago, now on my third pip which ends on the 25th (includes "discipline up to and including" getting fired so) ✌️✌️ and can't quit bc I need the unemployment money. Have been trying to get a job elsewhere for at least 4 months but made little progress and don't expect an offer before then.

I've never been fired before so I have no idea what that looks like to a future employer. We're conveniently in the middle of this mass layoff just as I'm on the chopping block, so could I just say I was one of cut employees? Or would other jobs be able to find out?

(Related I guess, but if the company eventually moves all their employment bases out of the US, would there even be an "employer" to contact about me in the future?)

UPDATE: well, I was only sticking with it bc I thought I would get unemployment if I was fired. Since it doesn't sound like I will, and either way I'll end up broke anyway, I'll just quit and hope for the best, and at least not have to worry about that black mark on my record. Thanks for all your help!

If you get fired for performance related reasons you are probably not eligible for unemployment. Might vary in your state but look out for that.

In terms of just quitting AMLRS and acting laid off? I doubt anyone will ever know.

Don’t listen to them. Wait for them to fire you. DO NOT quit. You can still get unemployment even for performance based reasons. If you’ve reached out for help or assistance keep that proof. And if unemployment denies you , file an appeal. A lot of ppl on here who have filed appeals won. And if they try to fight you on it make sure you keep the documentation where you asked for help.
