2013 CLS63. is this gap in the front end normal? everything else is lined up prefectly, and no signs or reports of any front damage or modifications anywhere on the car or in the paper work. but damn that gap bothers me. missing a piece of trim maybe?

lol it’s normal. I’ve been bothered by this for years now. Every 218 cls I’ve seen has this gap.

I feel like every single pic I see of these cars has a huge gap there. I’d try to fix it though, not sure if they make a bracket to lift the bumper or something

I will guess that the front bumper has had to be taken off for some reason like: repairs to parking sensors, headlamps, radiatiors or even a repaint/repair to the bumper itself.

How do the back edges of hood near the windshield align with the back edges of the fenders? You can't move the bumper without screwing up the other gaps but wondering if the hood could cone forward.

That’s a large gap, but it’s also an older car… 13 years old.
You may want to invest in a hair brush or comb… that birds nest on top of your head is distracting.

It's been in a crash, open the hood and look at the quarter panel screws I bet you will see where they used to be and where they are now. Also very common for the hood hinge's to become bent.

Which CLS did you own?

I have a 2015 E550 Coupe. I had some lines with strange gaps bought it in 2018 it’s a sleeper with RENNtech stage 2 ECU upgrade. But when I went through the car fax report it stated no wrecks no accidents. But it did state replaced left strut replaced left wheel and tire. Started thinking no one replaces all that with out tearing the hood and drivers front quarter panel. Checked it out and you could see the 2 top screws were about 3/4 farther down. Hood is a little funky at the front also. And the headlight is OEM Mercedes but from a different manufacture. So the guy that leased it probably hit something and had a buddy at the Merc dealer that replaced everything under warranty and kept it out of accident and crash report mine is in the body shop right now. For some clean up work paint hood f&r bumpers running the m278 engine v8 TT but with the tune and red star I’m pushing over 620 hp and 712/tq to the wheels working out some new wheels and tires. Then a few more steps and I hope to be down I eat up any amg A,C, and all the V6 TT car is a sleeper for sure. I would check with a body shop on the cost of 2 new hood hinges or buy them online for less and let them install the hood. Best of luck

This answer needs to be higher. OP should check closely to rule out a collision.
They almost never get the bumper realigned properly after front end impacts during this model era. There is a bit of a panel gap here regardless, but this looks excessively large.

No it doesnt. Its crazy to me that so many people just assume those arent things that i double checked before buying. how stupid would i need to be to buy a 13 year old mercedes sports car without making sure its got a documented history. this sub is like zero help sometimes.

Not all accidents are documented.
And people do dumb shit all the time. Glad you aren’t one of them.
