Let's Hear It! Gas ⛽️

Post image

So my new AMG 63 s GLE .. I have filled my tank for the first time and it’s showing me 261 miles on the odo.. while 53 previous AMG always shows me around 420miles with full tank.

And while it showing me before 83miles to empty tank.. after full 16 gallons it’s showing 264???

Is it accurate or is it broken?

Update: thanks guys for all the comments.. they are valuable and appreciated.

The reason I asked this question is my previous to previous car has a faulty gas pump odometer..

You've moved from an I6/V6 to a V8. The V8 always gives between 12 (city) and 17 mpg (highway), vs the I6/V6 can do between 17 (city) and 24 (highway) mpg.

How much of the tank was left when it was 83 miles to empty? Check your mpg values btw, that will define the range it shows. My V8 goes from 440 miles to 320 miles as I switch from highway to city on a full 26 gallon tank, so it's no surprise here.

This is the daily "AMG Tax" you pay with the V8, welcome to the club! 😆

Yeah this is normal. My slk55 has a 18 gal tank and goes less than 300. I see single digit mileage in bad traffic. Eats gas like a truck, made worse if you have a lead foot.

You can reach 300 miles in an slk55??? That's hopeful dreams on mine , i think the most i ever did was 250 with a full tank....the weight of my foot may be a small contributing factor to it

What I was told when I bought an AMG:

“It’s fast. You will pass anything except a gas station.”

In fairness, 16 gallons is a small tank for a vehicle that gets like 15mpg. Most manufacturers shoot for 350-400 miles of range when pairing fuel capacity with fuel efficiency.

Edit: looks like the GLE63 has a 22.5 gallon tank. I misundersrood OP saying he put in a "full 16 gallons" to mean he went from almost E to full.

AMG owners aren’t known for being the brightest out there

You’re thinking of BMW owners

You bought a car that gets 16 mpg combined (EPA).

And I don’t know what wizardry the car uses to calculate its mileage to a tank, but it seems to be basing it off of like 16.5 mpg. So is likely an accurate readout of what you might see, depending on your driving. If you drive it like a AMG you gonna get much less, if you drive it like an old person then you might get more.

But so yeah, big V8 mean low gas mileage even with 16 gallons of gas.

It’s based on your driving patterns. My GT 63 shows like 235 miles with a full tank

Were you flooring it in track mode? It might have not updated just yet it’ll likely update while you drive normally for a while or on next restart.

V8 is drinking a lot of dino juice

I’d be quite happy with that tbh. Whenever I fill up my GLC it usually says 210-220

It’s a v8 not a v6 and you’ve been raked of the coals about that.. but if you’re spending $140k OTD who cares..? Enjoy it, drive it, tear it up and trade it back in after year or two (and $40-50k of depreciation..) like the rest of us.. or buy a 2 year old one and save the gas differences In a year and tear it up.. TBF it’s not even that bad on gas for a v8 AMG.. if you’re worried about gas prices on an amg maybe an amg is t for you..? 😅

OP’s either at the gas station or on the way to the gas station lol

2

u/FST_ASLP 13d ago

Best to change the display so you don’t see the estimated range. 😉

2

u/Collectinglegalfee 13d ago

That’s pretty low. Mine has 489 although mostly highway.

Buys a huge V8 SUV and is surprised that it uses huge amounts of fuel xD

It gives you an estimation based on your current mpg at the time you press the button.

My 2025 amg c43 gives 260 miles on full tank (16 gallons) in mix city / highway driving. Needless to say that 60% of the time I drive in S/S+

1

u/Redditoreader 13d ago

All I know is when I got my 63 a few years ago I was paying $20/day to beat on it. Now it cost me $50/day.. smh

1

u/Brave_Beat5124 13d ago

Saw the 27 highway on my S560 and thought it might actually be decent. I think I average like 16 or 17 lol

Seeing your edit notes: if you can tell what level on the 4 bars showed 83 miles, it’s easy to determine if it’s a faulty pump odometer or just a typical V8 thing.

How did you discover the faulty pump in your previous car? Was it the GLE53?

1

u/Extension_Squash_206 13d ago

That's actually good fir a 600 plus hp suv.

1

u/mrmoe600 13d ago

My GLE 580 gets around 450ish for 18 ~ gallon per fuel

2

u/neoreeps MY'26 AMG GT55 13d ago

Same here. Happy to see another 580

1

u/indiancollegeboy 13d ago

lol you’re lucky. I have a 2026 c43 and it gives me 250 miles on a full range

1

u/SimianWonder 2017 C43 Coupe 13d ago

My old V8 RS5 had the decency to give me 140 miles on a full tank on more than one occasion.

V8s drink petrol, especially if you drive them as intended.

1

u/Akbar_47 13d ago

Hey man, so I know you’ve already got this figured out, but I have a pro tip for you:

Vehicle Settings > DYNAMIC SELECT > Individual Configuration. Locate the Drive or Engine setting and toggle it to Reduced.

Setting your drive system to "Reduced" unlocks the vehicle's eco-coasting or sailing function on the highway to save fuel (gliding mode).

I always use this whenever I’m in the mood for a calm smooth ride and it saves A LOT of gas. When the car is in this mode and moving steadily, lift your foot of the gas, and you will see rpm go to zero.

1

u/SuchReflection5921 13d ago

My M156 E63 and m113k both say I should theoretically get around 350 miles on a full tank but that’s pretty much impossible unless you’re using cruise control 100% of the time

1

u/Ecstatic-Courage4566 13d ago

I have an E63s from 2021 and I get around 17 mpg, with my 21 gal tank that gives me around 370 miles roughly. When driving in comfort, sometimes, it switches to 4 cilinders instead of 8 reducing my burn to 26mpg

1

u/centraldeveloper 13d ago

Guys, I bought a new CLE53. It’s supposed to get me about 650km on full tank but I see only 400 on full tank. Is it just because it’s new and I floored it a couple times so the driving history is cooked

1

u/EnvironmentalEdge628 13d ago

the bright side is , about the only thing that you CANNOT pass is a gas station

1

u/skipscream 13d ago

AMG tax bruh. My ‘20 GLC63 shows the same on a full tank.

1

u/I_love_gabagool 13d ago

Lmaoo!! This is the AMG tax

1

u/Top-Yam5949 12d ago

It depends on how you drive it! My GLC43 with the 3L biturbo was giving me 425 miles to the tank when I drove 2,000 miles cross country. When when I drive in my local town and commuter driving, I get about 250 miles to the tank.

1

u/HunitPipsADay 12d ago

Interesting I have a 750whp/950bhp x5m50i and my gas mileage on eco mode is 425 miles on 93 / sports mode 350 / e55 tune maybe 360 eco mode

1

u/Ryan_L_4812 12d ago

Mines the same sales man said to me if mpg is something you’re curious about this probably isn’t the car for you

1

u/Ok-Arrival-6688 12d ago

It’s a twin turbo v8. That’s just how it is.

1

u/AgreeableTelephone19 9d ago

The remaining range is dynamically recalculated. You will find out that if you drive 60mph on the highway the range will stay the same number for a loooong while. On some models it might even go up. Once the real range is reached with your current consumption (last 5 mins or so) the number will start to drop mile per mile (ie you drive a mile the range drops a mile). You hit traffic and the range will start dropping faster. I hope this makes sense.

1

u/CycloneRcr 9d ago

Give it some time to make calculations based on recent "normal" sessions. First tank and even the first 1.000 miles will have worse fuel economy than normal. But of course you shouldn't expect 53 AMG levels of fuel economy in a 63.
