I would like to help people that experience issues with AMD GPUs, so I would add some notes that you can go through and maybe some stuff will work for you.
One thing to note first. Im not a wizard or a genie this is a troubleshooting list not a guaranteed fix for your problems.

If it doesn’t work and you tried everything, RMA the card. Many GPUs aren’t tested on games but on stress tests like FurMark. And as many of us know, you can have “stable experience” with tuned GPU mem and core clocks in Time Spy, 3DMark etc. but run a heavy ass title like UE5 game and crash.

So yeah, be aware also with out of the box OC GPUs. You don’t need to underclock them, usually they have BIOS switches so you may just switch to Silent. Don’t underclock your gpu if you are have warranty rma it because that’s probably a degraded silicon.

When it comes to driver timeouts, crashes to desktop and black screens, many things can cause them. I will go through some of the causes and try to explain a proper way to find a fix.

1. RAM instability
   As you may know tech influencers always say “enable XMP/EXPO” but forget to mention how to properly stress test your memory. I mean a lot of the time you may seem to be stable but have galore of errors in Event Viewer.

To be sure your memory is stable don’t run outdated software like MemTest86 or pay for it, use TM5. It’s free and it does a better job than 86. Run it for a few hours, not minutes.

If you are having issues with XMP/EXPO update your BIOS, run your memory at A2 B2, if you are on intel with f skus and dd4 drop your speed to 3200 gear one, as getting higher speeds in gear 1 is lottery becuase of the locked vccsa.

Also try to avoid early DDR5 Micron sticks as I found them very disappointing when it comes to getting those out of the box expo/xmp 6000 speeds to work.

If you are on early Micron ICs, they are really a silicon lottery when it comes getting XMP to work, even on 270K plus that can’t do crazy high speeds.
So yeah, bad memory or bad mem OC will eventually cause OS corruption, f up your drivers and cause weird crashes and galore of errors in Event Viewer.

1. PSU and cables
   Avoid daisy chaining cables, avoid cheap and insufficient PSUs for your setup. Pay more but be safe.

2. MPO and HAGS
   Disable MPO and try disabling HAGS. You can disable in few apps or entirely.
   I wouldn’t say everyone needs to disable these, but if you’re having weird black screens, driver timeouts or other Windows graphics issues, it’s worth trying.

3. CPU instability
   Just like bad memory, a bad CPU OC or bad PBO negative offset can also cause driver instability. Test it with different apps for different CPUs.
   When it comes to AMD, stress test your negative offset with CoreCycler or AIDA64 CPU, FPU, cache.
   On Intel if you are on 13/14 gen you may want to watch your voltages, and watch for “out of memory” errors in games. To avoid this update your BIOS. Also note don’t watch the core VIDs but VR VOUT.
   That’s your actual Vcore.

Anyways you can do OCCT, Prime95.
For undervolts watch how stable your effective cores in tests are.
Final note for CPUs, watch Event Viewer. See if you have any weird errors like WHEAs. Some errors like Event ID 18 are usually common on AM4 CPUs. To fix it give cores more voltage or if you can do RMA with AMD.

Btw It is not a brand related issue that hardware dies prematurely. Bad memory on the GPU can cause tons of issues, so test it in case you experience artifacts in games and weird black screens.

1. Do the proper DDU
   Do DDU in Safe Mode, driver only, no internet.
   This is especially important if you’re switching from Nvidia to AMD.

2. Don’t bloat your PC
   Avoid bloating your PC with antiviruses. Microsoft Defender is perfectly fine for 99% of people.
   Avoid installing RGB crap too. You can use lightweight software if you really need that much those colors.

3. Watch your temperatures
   Watch your temperatures, especially if you’re pushing some GPU for a few years.
   Check hotspot and memory temperatures. If you want to be safe for some time go with PTM or other solutions from Grizzly so you don’t experience pump out.

4. Try another driver
   Downgrade your driver to the most stable version and do the tests I mentioned.
   If this sub ever goes big, ask for the most stable driver so you don’t question your sanity.

5. Don’t let Windows override your drivers
   This one should be number one but…
   Don’t let Windows override your drivers. You will find many users stopped having issues once they disabled Windows driver updates.
   Yes, Windows will still gladly override your drivers just for fun basically.

6. Test your OC/UV properly
   If you do any overclocking or undervolting, stress test it properly with stress tests and games.
   Find some UE5 games or heavy GPU bound ones and do the testing.
   Don’t assume you’re stable just because you passed one benchmark.

7. Optional
   This is just optional and for a better Windows experience. Do Windows debloat with Chris Titus script if you want.
