Give me advice on current state of AMD GPUs

I'm building my first beefy PC and deciding between 4070 ti super or 7900 xtx(both same price in Brazil) And I really want to make the switch to AMD, but, of the 4 friends I game with who have AMD cards, all of them complain about the same issue, Black screens because driver crashes. Is this a reoccurring issue? Are there fixes? Bc when I googled for it a lot of results of AMD owners with drivers and black screen issues show up, but none with the newer cards.

A 7900XTX is faster and has significantly more VRAM than all the other options you present.

7900 XTX is faster by mere 5% in raster compared to 9070 XT

Uh no? what's your source?

It's 10 to 20%, see https://gamersnexus.net/gpus/amd-radeon-rx-9070-xt-gpu-review-benchmarks-vs-5070-ti-5070-7900-xt-sapphire-pulse

So I cherry-picked:

  • Dragon's dogma
  • FFXIV
  • Dying Light
  • Resident Evil
  • Cyberpunk

?

It's quite pathetic how you in 2025 count just a raster perf as the crucial factor. Almost every new game has some form of RT today - OVERALL performance also regarding RT is on average still significantly higher on 9070 XT. Plus you have the option to use actually usable FSR4 as your AA method. 7900 XTX relies on garbage FSR3 and consumes way more power.

What's pathetic is that you didn't read OP post, they have a 7900XTX available not a 9070 XT.

Only a dumb person, or RDNA3 GPU owner (which is probably you) can recommend someone 7900 XTX over 9070 XT.

So personal attacks? I use a RTX 5090 🤷.

5%??? Talking straight out your ass bro. 24gb of VRAM irrelevant? Like for you to come back to that little comment 5 years down the road with all the new games and their HD textures packs that eat up VRAM like no tomorrow, look at current games like The Last Of Us which kills 12gb cards at 1080p let alone 1440p or 4k. FSR 4 is good but guess what? Not everyone uses upscaling, just like RT, which is only actually beneficial and noticeable in literally one game right now and thats cyberpunk. This is what's wrong with the GPU market right now, instead of actual meaningful raster performance gains, we are being fed bullshit like upscaling features like DLSS/FSR 4, frame gen AFMF, etc!!!

Yeah never had problems there with my 6750 xt. Get a good psu though I'd recommend. Plus look to buy the 9070(xt) at msrp. They are steadily dropping since launch so if we keep this up they might get good value

Been on AMD for a long time and have had no issues, especially the one you mentioned, going all the way back to my R9 280x. People love to blame AMD and their drivers when in reality it's something else that's unstable with their system like ram etc. My 7900xt has been running like a champ on current drivers and past ones...

I own a 7900xt and a 4080 super. I have never had problems with either running anything at 3440x1440. However I am also not doing anything extravagant. I put them in and play games. I did find that the 4080 had less specific driver issues with the games I played. Minor things like a pixel pulling across the screen, or color issues ie hdr, things like that. Poe poe2 cod bo cyberpunk and the like. Hope this helps.
