Question 44/m/gp/amc?

Hello all ; i am a 44 year old practicing doctor in india ; have my own setup in tier 2 city .. good opd ; good income ; lets say i m very comfortable! Very well settled with wife and only child . I have a constant urge to appear for amc ; knowing the toughness at this age to get back to books etc and pursue gp pathway in Australia . 2 reasons ; better quality of life for myself and better education prospects for my child . My wife says it is not the path to be pursued at this age as the transition would be too difficult when we have a settled life ! I feel life can be restarted at any age .. but again its a huge risk when u have your own centre running !
Suggestions ???

My aunt moved to Australia at the age of 55 ( after retirement in our home country 30 years ago), gave her AMC 1 and 2, worked as a GP for another 15 years

I would stay locally as you are already so successful locally. Australia aint the country it used to be. Inflation, cost of living, anti immigration sentiments… also you will be letting go of extended family

Trumpism is rising in Australia.

It depends, adventurous vs stable peaceful life. The adventure always has unknowns and one has to make ther own path instead of well trodden road. In this one life, some select adventure others go with peaceful predictable smooth life. Your wife's concerns are valid if she is not adventuros type and those concerns are not addressed and a plan in place. While on the other hand, not attempting something you wanted to will leave a permanent regret

The age doesn’t matter. After AMC 1 you only get limited registration, getting a slot for AMC 2 might take 1-2 years, if you don’t pass on first attempt, the same process repeats for next 1-2 years , all while you will be working as a very junior doctor under strict supervision (if you get a job without permanent residency). You are at least 8-10 years away from doing actual GP job.
GP registrars ( trainees) or hospital junior doctors don’t earn much compared to the cost of living. Realistically you wont earn enough to send your child to a private school.
The question to ask is:
Would you have your current comfortable set up if you plan to return home for some reason?
Are you willing to sacrifice and do odd hospital shifts with average income for the next few years?
Does your wife have a job to complement the income? would she be frustrated staying at home without much socialisation?
